Hello, friends!

Welcome to the Monthly Coffee, a little linky party hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read this month. Let's grow our blogger community by sharing the best posts you've come across. You'll find new blogs to read, and we'll all make new friends.

So pour yourself a steamy beverage, grab the button and share your favorite reads this month.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

Put on Your Oxygen Mask First from Sage Grayson [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]
Sometimes, it feels like life never slows down. I love Sage Grayson's tips for avoiding a burnout by "putting on an oxygen mask." And I will be implementing her last tip this evening.

5 Things People with Tidy Homes Don't Do from Nesting Place [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]
Since I'm working so hard on decluttering and getting our home tidier this year, I found this post from Nesting Place about things that Tidy People don't do to be helpful. I can definitely identify some things that I could change in my own house.

How to Brew Coffee with a Chemex from Our Messy Table [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]
My Mister makes us Chemex coffee every morning, and I love it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to brew coffee using this method, which makes things more difficult if he's out of town (thank goodness for our Keurig). Luckily, I have found this tutorial from Our Messy Table so I can surprise him with a fresh cup in the morning.

Snapchat: A Tutorial from Everyday Grace [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]
In addition to the Chemex, I will happily admit that I still haven't figured out how to use SnapChat even though I downloaded it more than a month ago. Luckily, I've found a tutorial for that as well, thanks to Everyday Grace.

10 Life Hacks for Dog Owners from CommuniKait [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]
As you know, we're parents of two lovely fur babies, and I was thrilled to find this post today from CommuniKait with 10 life hacks for dog ownership. Of course, it's worth sharing just for this fabulous shower cap photo.

Disclosure: I am a Grove Collaborative influencer and may be compensated for orders made via my links. Thank you for your support of my blog.

There’s nothing like the first few Spring days when I can finally open my windows and let in the fresh, fragrant air. After enduring a long winter, it’s like a burst of energy and hope.

The fresh air, flowering trees and sunny Spring mornings make me want to refresh my home with a little spring cleaning and decluttering. With the fantastic Mrs. Meyer’s Spring Cleaning Kit from Grove Collaborative, it’s easy to embrace spring cleaning the Mrs. Meyer’s lilac and peony limited edition products fill my home with the smell of fresh flowers, the glass spray bottle is beautiful and so functional and I can never have enough walnut scrubber sponges...which is why I’m so excited to share this offer with you!

Read on to find out how you get the products below for free!

Haven’t heard of Grove Collaborative?

You may remember me sharing my love of ePantry, the online store that delivers the best, effective and affordable natural household and personal care products right to your doorstep. This is the same great company with a new name!

I’m a longtime fan of Grove because they make creating a healthy, beautiful home effortless and economical. I don’t have to worry about running out of cleaning supplies or filling my home with chemicals because Grove always has me covered. I also love I always get reminders about upcoming shipments so I can review my order or change my arrival date.

Something tells me you’re going to be a huge fan of Grove too, especially after trying this Mrs. Meyer’s Spring Cleaning Kit! Grove is one of the first retailers to receive Mrs. Meyer’s limited edition spring scents and trust me, you don’t want to miss out, as it sold out last time. It’s a lot easier to feel inspired about spring cleaning with nontoxic products that smell amazing!

When I use the lilac hand soap and dish soap, I feel like I’m bringing my garden into my home. The products make my house smell like fresh cut flowers, which (almost) makes spring cleaning feel luxurious.

The spray bottle is so elegant that I can leave it out on the counter to show-off. Not to mention that it’s versatile too it can be used for concentrates and it’s great for any DIY recipe like homemade room freshener. The walnut scrubber sponges have been a long time staple in my kitchen. They’re made from plant-based materials, are nonscratch and can tackle tough messes. That’s a powerful trio!

And the best part of this offer? Whether you’re new to Grove or an existing customer, you can take advantage!

If you’re new to Grove Collaborative, here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up for Grove Collaborative here. You will receive the Mrs. Meyer's spring seasonal offer for free when you sign up!
  2. Answer 4 quick questions about your home that Grove Collaborative will then use to customize your first basket this takes under 30 seconds!
  3. Once you’ve answered the questions, you can finalize your basket of products to suit your household needs by adding or removing items.
  4. To receive this offer, your order needs to be a minimum of $20. Choose the combination of products and scents you love and receive in your first box.
  5. You made it! Click Finish & Pay and place your order.

Already hooked on Grove Collaborative? Existing customers click here to get a free Grove Collaborative glass spray bottle in your next order.

Don’t forget this special offer is only available until Sunday, April 3 or while supplies last.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

Grab button for FRIDAY CONFESSIONAL at HIGH-HEELED LOVE-button

I confess...

I have been staying up way too late this week, and it's affecting my mornings big time. I left the house this morning three times and came back because I kept forgetting things, including coffee and the HSA debit card to pay for my appointment today.

I can't even blame daylight savings time. I need to get back on track with my morning routine because that was definitely helping me move toward my goals.

I confess...

I cannot believe that we closed on our house nine years ago. It does not feel like we've lived here that long...and it's sort of a kick in the pants because we have a few projects that have been lingering that long as well.

Happy #throwbackThursday, friends. We're jumping back to 2007. We closed on our house 9 years ago this week. #tbt

I confess...

I have been doing some digital spring cleaning, which includes unsubscribing from lists I don't read, deleting accounts I don't use and unfollowing excess on social media. It's refreshing to login in and see people I recognize the people that show up.

I confess...

The Mister and I are hosting a small Easter dinner; really, it's just us, his mom and maybe his aunt. Even though it will be small and low-key; I'm excited to plan a menu and have a holiday meal.

Wednesday, March 23

Today is National Puppy Day, which honestly is every day in our home, but I wanted to take a few minutes to share why I'm thankful that we adopted our fur babies.

1. My pups are always happy to see me. Even if I just walked out the door and then came right back in because I forgot my sunglasses, me walking in the door is a celebration for them every. single. time.

2. I never have to sleep alone. It doesn't matter if the Mister is out of town. It doesn't matter if I've moved out to the couch. I have a snuggle bug who loves to spoon and snuggle.

3.  I never have to worry about anyone sneaking up on me at home. No person, cat or squirrel is walking up to my front door without an alert from our resident alarm system.

4. There is never an excuse not to exercise. We can even say the words "walk" or "outside" without a huge scuffle of paws and tails in our house.

5. There is always a willing volunteer for quality control in the kitchen. Whether they should or not, the pups are too happy to wait for a sample of any new recipe.

Share your puppy love! I want to hear about the best dogs in your life! Tell me in the comments.

I confess...

I had to laugh at this video. An escape from this double-handed grab is one of the first few techniques we learn in jujitsu...but personally, I'd rather poke them in the eye.

Two Hand Wrist Grab Defense
This defense will always work.

I confess...

I was lucky enough to be given some tickets to the Columbia City Ballet's presentation of Peter Pan this evening. This time, the Mister is coming with me; it will be nice to have a proper date night where we dress up and go out together.

I confess...

This pup started barking at pedestrians at 6:30 this morning. I'm glad that he keeps an eye on our house but not at the expense of our sleep.

I confess...

The Mister and I intend to spend this weekend getting the garden prepped to be planted. We're expecting one more cold snap to come through Sunday night, which is why the wizened, old farmers around here say you never plant before Easter weekend.

If you'd like to learn more about our garden, we have a food/garden blog called A Little Seed Grows.

I confess...

This was one of those work weeks where I may have purchased a pint of ice cream just to keep in the office. Don't judge me.

Hello, friends!

We are way further into March than I would like to be writing this post, but I'm doing it anway because I really want to hold myself accountable.

Let's take a look back at February:

Keep working my Couch to 5K plan.
That didn't happen, but I am feeling completely normal again, and the weather is good now. So, I'm out of excuses. I'll be getting back to the program this week.

Update the jujitsu notebook and have it reviewed by my sensei.
Nope. I HAVE to get this done.

Begin restoration massage program at dojo and stay current with homework.
So far, so good. I'm a little behind on reading, but all the written assignments are done.

Finish all outstanding crochet projects and mail them.
Complete. I even made a few extra things to send as gifts.

Pick two patterns for my Etsy shop and purchase yarn and any other supplies needed.
I've purchased the yarn for one pattern. I want to try making two trials of it before I spend any more money.

Finish reading The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Read Money-Making Mom by Crystal Paine
I finished Dave Ramsey, and I'm nearly done with Crystal Paine's book.

Set up plan with accountability partner to go through my client files at work and begin moving them to new database.
I have started working on the files. My accountability partner had some health issues so we're going to get started April 1.

I wish there were more goals full complete, but it is what it is. I think I need to scale back a bit for the remainder of this month; there's a lot going on.

March Goals

  • Repeat Week 3 and continue running the Couch to 5K Program. (Any of you that are Daily Mile please feel free to kick my but if I don't post a run by Wednesday.)
  • Write out two techniques in my jujitsu notebook every day for the remainder of the month.
  • Do one practice massage each week until my next massage class.
  • Begin working on crochet items for etsy shop; launch Facebook page to promote shop.
  • Finish reading  Money-Making Mom by Crystal Paine; start Retire Inspired by Chris Hogan.

I'm linking up with My So-Called Chaos and A Peek in Karen's World for the Monthly Goals party. Click the button to link up and join the fun.

I confess...

About half of yesterday's to-do list carried over to today. With a full weekend of being in class on the horizon, I'm feeling behind. I need to just breathe and do what I can.

This is my mantra today.

I confess...

This is another short confessional week, but I gotta keep my head down and get the work done for now. I'm hoping to write more next week. In the meantime, I'll leave you with this picture from lunch one day this week. It's been way too pretty to stay indoors.

Hello, fellow winos!

Welcome to Wino Wednesday! This is a monthly linky party where we discuss any and all things wine-related. First, let's cover the ground rules for the party:

  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday party and slap it on your post.
  2. Link a wine-related post to the linky party.
  3. Make some new friends over a glass of vino.
  4. Mark your calendar to join us for Wino Wednesday on the second Wednesday of each month.

Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

Can I be honest? I haven't really been drinking wine on Wednesday that often lately. Between Wednesdays starting at 5:30 in the morning to get ready for my breakfast meeting and ending after 9 in the evening because of jujitsu, I pretty fall into bed when I get home.

But I can tell you, plenty of wine has still been consumed in our household...especially after a long weekend of 8-hour massage classes.

Wine all the time. Especially right now. Between last night and this afternoon I have spent a total of 5+ hours on the...

I think this shirt, shared by Heather Giustino Blog, is easily my favorite wine-related find. She looks fabulous.

Springtime is coming here in South Carolina, and soon it will be time for cold beverages. I'm looking forward to trying this sangria recipe, but I might swap the kiwi for pineapple.

And finally, since we are working so hard to pay off debt, I've been looking for ways to keep my favorite beverage in the grocery budget. For me, that's been a combination of coupons plus Ibotta and switching to Trader Joe's for inexpensive wine options.

So that just about wraps up my Wino Wednesday this month. What have you been drinking, and how else are you enjoying your wine lately? Want to play along? Link your Wino Wednesday post below. Please comment after linking.

If you are new around these parts, the Mister and I took the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course through our church last year. We have a goal to pay off half of our consumer debt this year. You can catch up on our journey by checking out our January updateDecember update and/or reading our weekly FPU updates.

February Budget

Okay, February is a weird month, and it reflected in the budget. We stayed on track mostly, but only because the Mister was able to work extra hours at his job and pick up some significant side work on the weekends.

One of the tough things about being self-employed is that the business expenses are up, that affects your pay. My rent and business payment increased last month in addition to a couple unexpected expenses, so I sacrificed a paycheck.

As you can see, our extra income was awesome last month. The Mister has found a side gig where they currently need him on the weekends for as many hours has he can give. I really admire the man; at this point he's work 20 days in a row (he's working right now), but taxes are real and April 15 is coming.

February Victories

I have said over and over again that having an emergency fund brings a lot of peace of mind, and I thought we were going to have to use it this month when the Mister's check engine light came on. We have a great mechanic, but quality work doesn't equal the cheapest in town.

Luckily, with all the side income, we were able to pay cash for the repair. That's $400 that didn't have to come out of emergency dollars. Dave Ramsey says that you feel pain when you use actual cash; I'm going to attest that we confirmed this with our own experience last week.

No account closures this month, but in addition to paying cash for car repairs and putting a bunch in the tax fund, we did throw an extra $225 at our lowest debt on the snowball. Fingers crossed we knock that one out this month.

Since we started our journey in September, we have paid off five accounts, totaling $1950. We have also set aside our baby emergency fund as well as started a savings fund toward taxes.

Do you want to get started on your journey to financial peace? I'd suggest reading The Total Money Makeover or going to daveramsey.com to find a local Financial Peace University class.

What are your financial goals for 2016? What changes are you making with your money and budgeting processes this year?

I confess...

This has been one of those weeks. I am so glad that it's Friday. My laptop has gone down and may possibly need replacing (I'm writing this via the Mister's computer), which has slowed me down at work since all my client files are on it.

Thank goodness for regular backups.

I confess...

Also, I'm sick again, which I am so over. Fortunately, it's a minor sinus headache and congestion, but I'm so tired of feeling crummy. And I've tried so hard this winter to take good care of myself and not get too run down....but I have to say, my sinuses do no like weather that jumps from hot to cold and wet to dry within a span of 2-3 days.

I will admit that when I don't feel well, I bust out the red lipstick for a pick-me-up.

I confess...

Given that I have no access to my photos for the week, I'll wrap this up. Please share your confessionals. I may need a few laughs while we deal with technical difficulties here in South Carolina.
