I confess...

On Facebook the other day, I mentioned that we had crazy weather predicted. There was a tornado watch in effect for about sever hours and a high wind advisory. I was worried about the power going out since these winds were supposed to bring a cold front with them.

So here's my luck. The power did go out...while I was sitting in the dentist's chair having a cavity filled. Fortunately, she was done drilling and was doing the manual grinding to make my bite feel natural, but the experience was a little disconcerting.

Good morning! We have some crazy weather predicted today, and I'm thankful for a solid home and new windows that don't rattle. What are you thankful for today? Share in the comments. #dailygratitude

I confess...

This will probably come as no surprise if you've been reading here for a while, but we rescued another baby animal yesterday. The Mister found this tiny baby squirrel in my yard yesterday evening; he must have been blown out a nest with all the wind this week.

He was freezing cold to the touch, but we got him warmed up with a hot water bottle and a seed warming mat.

The video is from this morning. Since he's survived the night, I'll be taking him to the wildlife rescue/rehabilitation center when they open this morning.

I confess...

This pup. Don't let his sweet face fool you. He must have reached the equivalent of terrible two's because he has been a terrorist this week.

That includes two bouts of slipping out the front door when I was coming in and lots of barking in my face just because he wants to play in the backyard.

I confess...

I have very much deemed Reese's peanut butter cups and coffee as an acceptable breakfast a couple days this week. Sometimes you just gotta cave to cravings.

Hello, friends!

Welcome to the Monthly Coffee, a little linky party hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read this month. Let's grow our blogger community by sharing the best posts you've come across. You'll find new blogs to read, and we'll all make new friends.

So pour yourself a steamy beverage, grab the button and share your favorite reads this month.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

How to Make the Most of Your Mornings from Townsend House [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

Last month, I wrote about transitioning my morning routines, but I have fallen off the bandwagon. I need to get those routines established, so I've been seeking out more info from others on how they handle their mornings. I really enjoyed this post by Heather at Townsend House because she shares how different her mornings look as a mom compared to when she was a college student.

Soda Bottle Night Lights from Mama Loves Food! [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

Aside from crocheting a bunch this month, I haven't had time for any crafty projects lately. But I really want to make some time to create some of these soda bottle night lights, shared by Mama Loves Food!. The tricky part will be finding some of these special edition Diet Coke bottles locally.

6 Meal Planning Hacks from Humorous Homemaking [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

I've been thinking about ways to vamp up our meal planning since our schedule just seems to get busier and busier. Luckily, Humorous Homemaking has several hacks for improving the process. I'm thinking about trying to plan a month ahead.

Meet Turbo from She is Joyful [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

She is Joyful announced an addition to her family, in the form of four paws and a cute puppy tail. I'm celebrating puppy love with her; Turbo is adorable.

Ultimate Craft Closet Organization from IHeart Organizing [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

I am in absolute awe of this craft closet, featured on IHeart Organizing. We don't have a closet that large in our house, never mind one that I could give the purpose of craft supplies, but I'm hoping to use some of her organization ideas in my space.

Monday, February 22

So this morning, I was watching Amiyrah Martin on Persicope, and she was speaking to my heart. Basically, she was discussing that we push so hard in January for goals and resolutions that by this time in February, we feel burned out and discourage. And that is when we need to just whoop it up for ourselves and celebrate accomplishments, no matter how small they might seem.

February seems to have dragged on and on for me, so I'm taking her advice focusing on the progress I have made. Here are three things I'm celebrating today:

1. I've finished all my crochet orders; so now I have time for making a few gifts before starting on inventory for the upcoming etsy shop.

2. I survived the first weekend of massage/healing class. I'm a little overwhelmed with anatomy and physiology at the moment, but I know I'm going to get by just fine.

3. We're making progress financially. In addition to living on a budget and paying down debt, we're acting as a team when it comes to money. I cannot stress again how great having an emergency fund. The Mister's car is going into the shop next week, and it's not a stressful event at all because we have an emergency fund for unexpected expenses.

We're celebrating small victories in our house with a favorite house wine and some much needed down time.

Whoop it up! What are your small victories? Where are you making progress?

I confess...

I may have worked from home quite a bit this week because the tenant who lives in the apartment upstairs told me she has the flu. The last time she got sick, the Mister and I both wound up catching it. I need a new plan.

I confess...

I start my massage and healing class that the dojo this weekend. I'm a little bit nervous; it's been a long time since I've had textbooks and homework.

If you're interested, we're using The Complete Illustrated Guide to Chinese Medicine by Tom Williams as one of our textbooks.

I confess...

I have not run at all in the last two weeks. Last week, my foot was bothering me, so I give myself a pass since I don't want to injure myself while training for my black belt exam.

This week, I'm just intimidated by the 5-minute intervals in the training plan. That's no excuse. I need to get it done.

I confess...

I finally finished up my pending December crochet orders and hooked up a beanie for myself. Now I'm moving on to a few belated birthday gifts.

I confess...

Since I'll be in class all weekend and the Mister has lined up some side work, I think our Friday date night will consist of doing laundry and vacuuming. How romantic!

Good morning, lovelies!

<div class="FRIDAY-CONFESSIONAL-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 200px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/HighHeeledLove_zps6db62c81.jpg" alt="FRIDAY CONFESSIONAL at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="200" height="256" /> </a> </div>

I confess...

I'm having one of those mornings where even the most mundane task feels like a challenge. Last night, we were supposed to have a birthday dinner with family, but it turned into a trip to the emergency room when one of our party starting not feeling well and passed out.

We expect everything is going to be fine, but they are still holding him for observation. So we'll know more later today.

Funny enough, this was my note from the universe this morning. I guess God knew I needed an "it's going to be okay."

I confess...

I miss Brown Box Veggies; it makes me so sad that the business closed. This week, the Mister and I received care packages from the founders of the business along with a note thanking us for our involvement.

We miss them, and we miss having those boxes of fresh veggies in the house this year. I'm going to have to start searching for a CSA to join this year, or we're going to have to step the garden way up.

I confess...

This weekend is pretty much a jujitsu weekend. We have open mat class tonight and black belt class tomorrow morning. On Sunday, I'm planning on updating my jujitsu notebook so that I can have it reviewed next week.

Next weekend is the first massage class, which will be all weekend long. So I guess I'll be living at the dojo when I'm not at work.

I confess...

A friend shared this video to me the other day, and I thought it was just the dose of cuteness to start our weekend with.

The latest viral video shows a sweet pit bull playing with baby turkeys. Her owner says she’s “obsessed” with the baby fowl. http://go.fox59.com/1Hquj9y

Hello, fellow winos!

Welcome to Wino Wednesday! This is a monthly linky party where we discuss any and all things wine-related. First, let's cover the ground rules for the party:

  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday party and slap it on your post.
  2. Link a wine-related post to the linky party.
  3. Make some new friends over a glass of vino.
  4. Mark your calendar to join us for Wino Wednesday on the second Wednesday of each month.

Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

It's pretty cold outside (according to my weather app, it feels like 17 degree out), so I might be a tad more focused on coffee as I write this post, but don't worry, I'll get to the wine part of the day soon enough.

It's that time of year again - the season of pairing Girl Scout cookies and wine. Last year, we didn't order any cookies because it seemed awfully expensive, but I see no reason we can't indulge this year if it stays within the grocery budget.

The challenge will be finding a girl scout. I don't think any of my local friends have daughters at the right age.

Don't you think this tank is accurate for me? With the temperatures these days, I need just about all the motivation I can get when it comes to running.

Finally, if you need a little wine-related inspiration for Valentine's Day, check out this simple wine spritzer.

Y'all, February is the coldest month in the area we live in, and this week we are definitely feeling it. The wind today is blowing at 30 mph gusts and are adding a 10-degree wind chill, which makes the temps feel freezing.

Also, I'm not sure who is town, but a presidential candidate must be working the area in anticipation of next week's primary. The traffic downtown was crazy, and I had to park much further away from my post office box than normal in this wind. It was cold.

When the weather gets like this, I really start dragging my feet about working out, whether it's an indoor or outdoor workout.

Enter cute workout clothes. Bright colors and girly patterns make happy, and they sure help with the motivation. So here are my picks for Valentine's-themed workout gear.

Do bright colors help inspire to workout when the weather is less than ideal? Do you have any Valentine's workout gear?

If you are new around these parts, the Mister and I took the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course through our church last year. We have a goal to pay off half of our consumer debt this year. You can catch up on our journey by checking out our December update and/or reading our weekly FPU updates.

January Budget

One thing that helped us a lot with our January budget was that for Christmas we asked to gift cards to my favorite grocery store. We received about $120 in gift cards...which equated to about two weeks of grocery budget. We love our family.

The extra income wasn't quite as rich as it was in December, but I'm pretty proud of what we did make. Honestly, I was surprised to make what we did off the clothing sales since I wear my clothes for years. I had no luck with Plato's Closet (which was Amiyrah Martin's first choice), but thus far, Clothes Mentor has purchased several items from me. I'll be giving thredUP a try this month as well.

January Victories

Let me tell you, having our bills paid well ahead of time has lent a lot of peace to our minds this past month, especially when we both wound up at home sick with the crud. This involved trips to the pharmacy and our favorite Thai place for coconut chicken soup. It's really nice not to worry about whether we can afford to buy this kind of stuff.

A tough decision that we had to make this month was deciding not to go to our jujitsu organization's national convention. We just couldn't justify the travel costs when we have debt and a possible tax bill looming in the not-so-distant future. This might not sound like a big deal, but this year the Mister would be recognized for passing his last exam. It was a hard sacrifice.

Then an amazing thing happened. The senseis at our dojo decided to gift a plane ticket to the Mister so he wouldn't have to miss the trip. He's also been invited to be an instructor, which reduces the registration significantly as well. All we have to worry about is basically meals, and he'd be eating if he were at home.

It will be tough for me to stay home and not get to support him in this accomplishment, but I'm so glad that God provided a way for him to go.

We closed two more accounts this month; both were already at zero balance and just hadn't been called about. Also, we made a big deposit to the Health Savings Account in order to reimburse ourselves for all our 2015 medical expenses prior to starting the course.

Since we started our journey in September, we have paid off five accounts, totaling $1950. We have also set aside our baby emergency fund as well as started a savings fund toward taxes.

Do you want to get started on your journey to financial peace? I'd suggest reading The Total Money Makeover or going to daveramsey.com to find a local Financial Peace University class.

What are your financial goals for 2016? What changes are you making with your money and budgeting processes this year?

I confess...

I am in love with yoga! If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have picked up on this since I've mentioned it several times this week.

Posted by High-Heeled Love on Tuesday, February 2, 2016

A friend invited me to a beginner's class with her last weekend, and we each decided to buy a one-week beginner's pass. I've been in nearly every day this week.

I confess...

The only thing about adding yoga into my workout routine in addition to jujitsu and running is that I have to be careful not to overdo it. The yoga has been helping me with the jujitsu though. I just don't want to overtrain and get injured.

Also, I believe that this tanktop from Zulily going to be my next addition to my workout wardrobe.

I confess...

Today started with a trip to the bank because I got a security call regarding my debit card. Apparently, my debit card was hacked last night, and someone decided to go shopping at a Walmart about an hour away from me.

Luckily, my credit union can issue replacement cards in the branch, so one hour later the entire problem is resolved. I love my credit union.

I confess...

We have another cold front hanging out this weekend, and the weather change if affecting my sinuses again. Can it please be spring already?

Hello, friends!

Happy Monday! Can you believe that we're at the beginning of February? How did your January go? Did you accomplish anything fabulous?

I didn't get quite as much done as I had set our for myself, but I still feel very accomplished. Let's review the goals from last month:

Complete the first four weeks of runs in the Couch to 5K training app. Continue to check in with my accountability partner.
Progress: I'm halfway through week 3. I got sick last month, and my foot started bothering me. I'm not trying to injure myself so I'm comfortable with where I'm at.

Update jujitsu notebook and turn in for my sensei to review.
Nope: And the silly thing is that it's because I need more paper for my ARC system and have been procrastinating on ordering more. My black belt exam is my biggest goal for this year; I need to stop being lame and get this done.

Finish researching Etsy setup fees. Pick a name. Get tax questions together for my accountant.
Progress: I have a name and have done some research. I've also reached out a designer to create a logo. But I don't feel educated enough on the taxes side of things; I need to schedule a call with our accountant.

Finish up December crochet orders and mail them.
Progress. I have 3 of a 5 piece order completed; I need to wrap this up this week.

Read 2 books.
Progress. I finished The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, and we've started KonMari-ing our home.  I'm about 2/3 finished with The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.

Go through "A" client files and work and move them to the new database.
Nope. I have determined I need an accountability partner for this as well and have reached out to a colleague.

Get business tax info together for the accountant.
Progress. We're waiting on the Mister's tax documents and should have this wrapped up by the end of the week.
So, maybe I got too ambitious last month, but a lot of those goals have to be done. So let's move on.

February Goals

  • Keep working my Couch to 5K plan. My foot continues to give me trouble, so I'm taking more rest days than the training plan calls for but I'll keep chugging along.
  • Update the jujitsu notebook and have it reviewed by my sensei.
  • Begin restoration massage program at dojo and stay current with homework.
  • Finish all outstanding crochet projects and mail them.
  • Pick two patterns for my Etsy shop and purchase yarn and any other supplies needed.
  • Finish reading The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Read Money-Making Mom by Crystal Paine
  • Set up plan with accountability partner to go through my client files at work and begin moving them to new database.

I'm linking up with My So-Called Chaos and A Peek in Karen's World for the Monthly Goals party. Click the button to link up and join the fun.
