Hello, friends!

Welcome to the Monthly Coffee, a little linky party hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read this month. Let's grow our blogger community by sharing the best posts you've come across. You'll find new blogs to read, and we'll all make new friends.

So pour yourself a steamy beverage, grab the button and share your favorite reads this month. That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

Glitter & Gloss: What I Eat [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

I have been following Heather's journey to get fit since it began, and I was happy to see that she shared on her blog Glitter and Gloss her tips for eating clean(ish) and what a typical day of meals looks like for her. It's refreshing to see someone making serious strides in their health without becoming a robot about their diet.

JVKom Chronicles: How to Beat the Winter Blues [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

I always find myself a little down when the holidays are over, and we just have days and days of gray winter weather. It was a nice little surprise to find Jen's list of ways to beat the winter blues over at JVKom Chronicles; she's got some great ideas for a little pick-me-up (and they don't involve spending money).

Sunny Sweet Days: Organize Your Life [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

As you may know, my word for this year is Achieve, so I've been keeping my eyes open for ideas to help keep my goals in front of me, especially as the newness and drive of January wears off. Luckily, Krystal from Sunny Sweet Days has several ideas to help stay on track, using just a few items from the Dollar Tree.

Kimi Who?: How My Blog Made Real Money in 2015 [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

Kimi is always honest and upfront when she talks about blogging as a business on her blog Kimi Who? And in this post, she talks not only about earnings but also about the expenses, which is something that so many bloggers don't share. Blogging can be really rewarding, but the net profit isn't always huge.

Whistle & Ivy: Puppy Love Heart Slouchy [Monthly Coffee at High-Heeled Love]

I have been doing a lot of crocheting of projects with hearts lately to finish up some orders from December, and now I'm hunting a few new projects for Valentine's Day. I think this slouchy hat from Whistle and Ivy is just the cutest. Wouldn't you love to receive this in the mail?

I decided after chopping my hair off last week, that my new look was in need of new glasses. But with our budget and schedule, I don't have a lot of time or money for shopping.

I love my optometrist, but there's no getting out of his office without spending at least a few Benjamins on new frames.

Warby Parker has the answer! With their Home Try-On program, I pick up to five styles, including styles from their new Spring 2016 collection, and have them shipped to my house for free. I can then try them on and test them out in the comfort of my home and get feedback from friends and family.

Spring 2016

When done, I simply ship them back and purchase the pair I love the best! The Warby Parker Home Try-On Program makes shopping for eyeglasses a breeze. Here are the frames I selected to try on:

Warby Parker Eyeglasses - Finch in Striped Molasses

Warby Parker Eyeglasses - Oliver in Maraschino

Warby Parker Eyeglasses - Chilton in Blueberry Buckle

Warby Parker Eyeglasses - Wilkie in Eastern Bluebird Fade

Warby Parker Eyeglasses - Sims in Striped Sassafras

Would you try the home try-on program? Which pairs are your favorites?

UPDATE: June 2016

I ultimately ordered the Wilkie frames. Also, be sure to check out my post about Warby Parker's sunglasses for National Sunglasses Day.

Hi, friends, happy Monday!

We had a brief stint with winter this weekend that involved snow on Saturday morning, but thankfully, it didn't stick. If you're new around these parts, let's clear something up. I don't do cold weather; I don't do snow. I don't like it, and there's a reason that I don't live up north anymore.

There. Now with that being said, even our mild winter weather here in South Carolina is enough to make whimper and whine, but if I want to stick with my running program, it's not an excuse to miss workouts.

And since I don't have a gym membership or a treadmill, here is how I've been surviving the winter weather.

1. Run in the warmest part of the day

I really prefer that it be at least 40 degrees outside, so I'm scheduling my runs in the late afternoon, usually around 3-4 p.m.

2. Layer with thermal activewear

Just because it's cold outside, doesn't mean that I won't be sweating 10 minutes into the workout, so I have several thermal tops (such as these thermal tops) that keep me warm but still wick moisture away; I'm especially a sucker for shirts with thumb holes.

The last couple weeks, I've been wearing a vest as a second layer to my thermal top, but I've got my eye on this adidas jacket as reward when I finish week 4 of my training program since I'd like another layer on my arms, but want to be able to tie it around my waist if I get too warm.

3. Wear a hat

Now I'll be the first person to say that I love hats at all times of the year, but do you have any idea how much heat escapes your body through your head? This is not a time for vanity over hat hair; I want my head and ears warm.

My favorite is my ladies knit hat from Carhartt (link to similar product) because it's fleece-lined, and it's tight enough to keep those stinking ear buds from falling from my ears.

4. Use sunscreen no matter the weather

Look my mother-in-law does skincare for a living; no matter the weather conditions, I wear sunscreen on my face. It's the best thing I can do to take care of my skin. I apply sunscreen before run...including lip balm with SPF.

After the workout, I like to baby my skin with a deep moisturizer and foot balm for my poor feet. They are working so hard for me. (Bonus tip: use baby wash clothes on your face; they are so much gentler on your skin.)

5. Get an accountability partner

No matter whether I have all the right gear or not, I am still capable of letting myself off the hook when it's cold outside. So I have an accountability partner.

We check-in each day about the workout of the day. Fortunately, she hasn't had to kick me in the butt yet, but know she will if I start slacking off helps keep me motivated.

What are you tips for working out in winter weather? Share some of your winter workout gear.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

I shouldn't have bragged on my running schedule last week because that's probably what jinxed me into getting sick and missing two of my runs this week. I did run on Monday though, so there's that.

Since I am feeling better today, I should run today or tomorrow...it's supposed to snow, and I don't wanna! Somebody please tell me to suck it up.

I confess...

You know what's tough about snow in South Carolina? Everyone rushes the grocery store for milk and bread. I'm supposed to go grocery shopping anyway this afternoon.

This should be fun...not really.

I confess...

Before the sickness took us both down, the Mister and I had an opportunity to go to USC men's basketball game. The seats were awesome, fifth row right behind the basketball goal. I had forgotten how much I enjoy watching basketball.

Afterward, we took a walk through campus since the weather was pretty for the first time in weeks. It was wild to see how much been built and changed since I graduated.

I confess...

It didn't matter to me how sick I was this week, I was not missing my hair appointment yesterday. This was the first time we worked it into the budget in the last two months, so my hair was long overdue to see my stylist.

We cut it short (great move with a snow storm rolling in), and I'm really thrilled with the results. And I think it refreshed the pink pops.

Wednesday, January 20

I've shared before that I don't do cold weather gracefully by any stretch of the imagination, but when you pair that with the crud, I'm pretty much non-functional.

It started as a tickle in my throat on Monday night and had turned into a sinus headache by the time I went to bed yesterday. This morning, I woke up with the full-blown crud that includes coughing, congestion, aches & fever.

In other words, I'm not being productive at all. So what's a gal to do? Sleep, snuggle with the pups and drink lots of hot liquids. Meanwhile, the Mister called from work to say he's not feeling so well.

I sure hope the sickness stays far, far away from your house and family.

I confess...

This has been one busy week at work, which is good since things traditionally slow down for me after the new year.

I confess...

Running in the cold is no joke. I've been pretty pleased to have stuck with my running plan so far since I usually chicken out when I have to run in temperatures below 40 degrees. I know I'm a wimp.

Anyway, I'm glad to say that while I've whined and procrastinated, I have not skipped any runs.

The reward? The Mister has promised a massage this weekend for sticking with my training program...this could be viewed as torture, too, but I sure do need some body work.

I confess...

I hope you had a change to check out the special offer from ePantry that I shared on Tuesday. Quantities are limited so don't wait long to order your kit.

I confess...

This evening, I'll be heading upstate to a book signing with Chris Hogan, who works for Dave Ramsey. His book Retire Inspired released this week, and I'm excited to meet him.

I confess...

I was so saddened to hear that Alan Rickman passed away this week. Watching Harry Potter or Die Hard will never be the same again.

Hearing that Alan Rickman has passed makes my heart very sad. Professor Snape will live in our hearts and imagination.http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35313604

The other day, I shared an opportunity to get a Mrs. Meyers cleaning kit through Grove Collaborative with a $20 purchase, and there were many comments from y'all about being pressed for time when it comes to cleaning house.

I completely understand. Between running my business, training jujitsu 3-4 days a week, community service and beginning a running program at the beginning of the year (plus having two dogs in the house), it sometimes feels like there's never enough time to keep up with housework. I can't even imagine how moms do it.

Anyway, I wanted to share a couple things that we do each evening to help keep the house tidier between deep cleans. I hope you'll find them helpful.

Wash Dishes

We don't have a dishwasher; so staying on top of the dishes is essential in our house. We wash dishes at night and put them up first thing in the morning. Also, if you have pets, remember to wash their bowls after each feeding.

Wipe Down Your Counters & Stove

The last thing I want to do in the morning is deal with yesterday's drips and splatters. So I spray a little Mrs. Meyers Countertop Spray and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then I come through and wipe everything off with a clean cloth so the counters and stove will be fresh for the next day's food preparation.

Clean Bathroom Sink & Mirror

After brushing my teeth and washing my face, a quick wipe down with a disinfecting wipe helps keeps the sink shiny. This is also a good time to clean the mirror as well. Who wants to look at toothpaste splatters when they're putting makeup on.

I've mentioned before that we order the majority of our household cleaning products through Grove Collaborative, an online subscription service that offers discounts on all natural product lines such as Mrs. Meyers, Seventh Generation and Method.

If you haven't Grove Collaborative them out, I strongly suggest giving them a shot. Not only is super convenient and good for the environment, I believe in supporting companies that have a strong customer service program. Every time I speak to them, I'm impressed.
