Friday, April 25

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

The Mister and I headed out to a fancy gala dinner last night, and I may have had a little too much to drink. So this morning has a been a slow start.

I love a good reason to get dressed up, and as a "grown up" those reasons don't seem to come around that often anymore.

I confess...

After the gala, we stopped in a new restaurant Bourbon of Columbia, which has a super cool vibe. I've discovered two new cocktails that I really like - Whiskey Smash and the Harvest (Moscow) Mule.

Both drinks are pretty simple to make, so I'll probably try to replicate them at home sometime.

I confess...

We're having a little yard sale tomorrow, which means that I have tons of stuff sitting in my living and dining rooms right now. The plan is to donate whatever we don't sell. De-cluttering our house is a serious goal this year. It's amazing how empty our attic is at the moment.

I confess...

I can't believe it's the end of April already. I have set some pretty lofty second quarter goals at work, so I really need to buckle down next week and make some progress.

I confess...

This isn't so much a confession as it is a simple truth, but coffee puts a smile on my face every time.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. I'm loving this post on The Art of Simple about learning from pain and pushing through for progress...and the post features beautiful artwork.

2. Love, love, love this DIY Sharpie Tea Pot  as a Mother's Day gift idea from the Happy Housie. I'm not a mommy, but will someone make me one of these anyway?

3. There's a sobering post from Carolina Fireflies that reminds us that we aren't guaranteed a tomorrow, which I need a reminder of every now and then, after a friend of hers was affected by the deaths at the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon last week.

4. Victoria from Lily loves Lola did her version of a Shoe Lust List last week, and I'm lusting after most of her picks.

5. Ricki Jill from Art @ Home shared a quick list of ways to add some Spring decor to your home, which I find inspiring and easy! Hope it helps you out.

I confess...

I bet y'all are tired of seeing our wedding photos, aren't you? Don't worry. I'm done sharing for now, but I did have a fabulous time going through them again. And I came to this realization.

I confess...

I  never did put together a wedding album...which I think is something that I need to fix this year. That will make looking back through our photos when I'd like to a little more accessible.

I confess...

The Mister and I had a fantastic dinner last night...and since I was all dressed up, I made him snap a couple photos.

I confess...

All I asked for our anniversary was flowers, and I'd say he did well.

I confess...

I want to wish a very big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos. I know she's at Comic Con today, so I'm sure she's have a fabulous day.

Love

recognizes no barriers.
it jumps hurdles,
leaps fences,
penetrates walls
to arrive at its destination

Tuesday, April 15

I work for myself, and I do sales for a living. So I recognize that some days...no, some weeks, some months are just crazy. And I have to take care of things and get the job done, and that doesn't always leave a lot left over for me time.

That was March.

But this is April.

In the leadership class that I'm taking, we had to create a set of guiding principles. The rules we're going to live by and run our businesses with that we will not compromise on. This was one of my principles:

I will recognize that taking care of my family and business means first taking care of myself.

And I've been striving to do that this month. It started on the first day of the month. I booked a massage to help let go of the stress of March. I've joined some fitness challenges and (albeit slowly) started back to a running program.

Today I was in need of a little pampering. So I sneaked out of work about an hour early to come home and draw a bubble bath. Those thirty minutes of soaking in the tub with a hot cup of tea and a magazine while I could hear the rain outside the open window were just what the doctor ordered.

Oh, and I'm still loving sharing some wedding photos for our anniversary week. Here's today's favorite:

Monday, April 14

This Taylor Swift song is all about new beginnings to me, and it reminds me a little of when the Mister and I first started dating. And since this week is our anniversary week, I'm going to share a story.

We initially met at a sandwich shop where I was working a second part-time job the year after I graduated college. He worked around the corner and would come in for lunch, but I hadn't really taken any notice of him.

When the Mister first asked me out, I was looking for a relationship at all. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't very pleasant to him on our first date at all. Let's chalk it up to having dated a series of jerks just before meeting him and a serious heartbreak in college, but I'm surprised that he asked me out a second time.

My roommate kept asking me after the date if I was going to go out with him again (she recognized what a good guy he was), but I kept saying I wasn't sure I was interested. I didn't even know if I thought he was cute.

Anyway, while we were out on that first date, he mentioned a Miles Davis album that I said I have never heard of. I came into work a week or so later, and the owner said that the Mister had dropped a cd off for me; it was a copy of that album.

I gave it a good listen but decided that the album wasn't really for me and decided the next week to stop in at his work and give the cd back. By that time, the Mister had called and asked me out a few more times, but I had excuses....mostly work as to why I couldn't go out with this guy I wasn't even sure I was interested in.

That afternoon everything changed. I walked into his store, and he was standing behind the counter with a coffee in his hand. There was a beam of sunlight that was coming in the front window, and he was standing right in the middle of it, and the sunlight made his eyes shine. I had never see such pretty, sparkling blue eyes, the whole situation just took my breath away.

I couldn't even tell you what we said to each other. I just remember almost floating along the sidewalk back to my car. My stomach was completely aflutter, and I just knew that this man was going to be very important in my life.

Thank goodness he called me at work to ask me out again that week...and that time, I had the sense to accept.

Sunday, April 13

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Welcome to the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read through the week and promote our blogger community. I hope it will help you use this party to find new blogs to read and build some new blogger friendships.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

<div class="WEEKLY-ROUND-UP-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 250px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/47f1b200-2680-4570-861b-31a2456adb15_zps324769d5.jpg" alt="WEEKLY ROUND-UP at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="250" height="250" /> </a> </div>
That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. We've reached the time of year where most of us start thinking about a little spring cleaning and decluttering...so this list of tips to create a dream closet, featured at The Glitter Guide, was a little inspiring.

2. Miss Angie may be my co-host for this party, but her post this week about emotional scars and healing is absolutely one of my favorites so it needs to be included.

3. For a dose of super-cuteness, head over to Art @ Home, where Ricki Jill's new Westie pup Finlay has taken over the blog for the day.

4. Since I use High-Heeled Love's FB page regularly to promote blog posts, I found this post by Wonder Forest about Facebook and changing the algorithms of who sees page posts to be interesting...and a little disenchanting. My take away is that if you really like a blog and it's FB page, like or share the post to keep the page's reach up.

5. A several blog friends and I are doing the 100 Happy Days project via instagram, and I thought this list of ways to be a happier human being on Blogilates this week fits right in with the mission.
