Monday, March 31

Here we are on Monday, which is also likely to be my busiest work day this year.

Here's a little something from Shakira that the Mister and I were enjoying over the week.

The single was free from Starbucks last week if you managed to catch it.

Sunday, March 30

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Welcome to the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read through the week and promote our blogger community. I hope it will help you use this party to find new blogs to read and build some new blogger friendships.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

Grab button for WEEKLY ROUND-UP at HIGH-HEELED LOVE-button
<div class="WEEKLY-ROUND-UP-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 250px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/47f1b200-2680-4570-861b-31a2456adb15_zps324769d5.jpg" alt="WEEKLY ROUND-UP at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="250" height="250" /> </a> </div>
That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. The Mister and I have agreed that we need to re-visit and re-vamp our budget this spring, and I want to add building an emergency fund to it. (We have some money in an investment account, but I don't want that to be what we use if an emergency happens.) So, I was happy to see this little list from Ruth at Living Well Spending Less of ways to easily and quickly build an emergency fund.

2. If you're tender-hearted when it comes to animals, this post may not be for you, but I had tears in my eyes when I was reading about this sweet pitbull's story over at Tyler Dog Photography.

3. I've been drooling over this recipe from the Ambitious Kitchen for brown sugar honey marinated salmon all week long. You can bet that the next time we get pineapple in our Brown Box Veggies that is going on the menu.

4. If you decorate for Easter, then you this post of fifty different Easter eggs ideas, compiled by Lil Luna, is a definitely one you must check out. My favorite are these cute, little lunch note eggs.

Friday, March 28

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

Grab button for FRIDAY CONFESSIONAL at HIGH-HEELED LOVE-button
<div class="FRIDAY-CONFESSIONAL-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 200px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/HighHeeledLove_zps6db62c81.jpg" alt="FRIDAY CONFESSIONAL at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="200" height="256" /> </a> </div>

I confess...

I've said it a couple times on the blog recently, but these last few weeks have been crazy at work. I was telling the Mister yesterday, that I think I've taken more applications in the last 10 business days than probably the first two months of the year combined. It's a good thing, but wow, I'm ready for a few days off.
At least all the client appointments have provided motivation to fix my hair and makeup properly.

I confess...

In preparation for celebrating the end of open enrollment, I have booked an hour-long "Total Relaxation" massage at a local day spa for next Tuesday. I am so excited about the idea of just doing nothing for an hour, the time can't pass fast enough.

I confess...

Our dojo is hosting a ladies only clinic tonight and tomorrow. I'm looking forward to working out some tension on the mat. Plus it's going to be cool to focus specifically on self defense ideas for women. We're going to be doing some work without our gis on; I don't get to practice without the heavy jacket often so this should be interesting.

I confess...

Because of the ladies only clinic, I intend to get my toenails painted before heading to class this evening. Working out with mostly guys means that I don't have to worry as much about this stuff, but when it's ladies only, I want my feet to look nice.

P.S. Miss Angie is a doing a huge nail polish giveaway over at My So-Called Chaos; there are five prizes to win.

I confess...

I have eaten out way too much in the last few weeks, especially for lunch. I need to make April and May eat at home month if I want to have some fun money for our trip in June.

Thursday, March 27

Yesterday evening, I picked the Mister right after to work and we headed straight to a social for a business networking group that I'm in. Wednesdays are long. They start at 5 a.m., and yesterday, I got home a little before 11 p.m.

Get Happy: Drink Tea
I was happy to see my Mug o' Comfort Swap package from Mellissa at A Fit and Spicy Life had arrived but didn't have any energy to think about it until this morning. But this morning, I'm feeling all kinds of spoiled.

One thing that I have been trying to do this spring is drink more tea, especially green tea, for the health benefits and just as a way to stay hydrated. Plus a hot cup of tea in the middle of a crazy afternoon at work is really calming. Mellissa definitely hooked me up on that front.

Get Happy: Drink Tea

In addition to these two boxes of tea, there were single tea bags and other single beverage samples in the goodie box.

Get Happy: Drink Tea

This happy yellow tea mug has a mesh tea filter in it and comes with a lid so I brew loose tea leaves or use tea bags any time, I need a steamy mug o' comfort. And the box included some yummy jelly beans should I need a little sugar to go with my mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
Get Happy: Drink Tea
Do you want to see what other swappers received in the Mug o' Comfort Swap? Click this button head over to Chaotic Goddess Swaps and check out the goodies. Also, keep your eyes open for their April swap announcement.

P.S. I shared this mug as Day 4 of my 100 Happy Days challenge. If you want to see more of what makes me happy, follow along on Instagram.

Wednesday, March 26

Hello, fellow winos!

While I was on my un-planned blogging hiatus this month, Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl made a decision about the Wino Wednesday party. If you read her blog too, then you may already know this, but as a result of us both being so busy in real life, we will be moving the party to a monthly linky rather than weekly.

Grab button for WINO WEDNESDAY at HIGH-HEELED LOVE-button
<div class="WINO-WEDNESDAY-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 250px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/WinoWednesdaynewbutton_zpsea48bc45.png" alt="WINO WEDNESDAY at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="250" height="188" /> </a> </div>

Beginning in April, the party will occur on the second Wednesday of the month. I hope you'll come join us to discuss all things wine-related at the first monthly link-up on April 9.

P.S. If you need to get your vino fix from High-Heeled Love more regularly than once a month, you might want to consider following my Wino Wednesday board on Pinterest.

Tuesday, March 25

It's one of those days where I have so much on my plate, that I don't really know where or how to get started. Thus I am employing the "brain dump" to get some of this randomness out of my head and maximize on productivity.

1. Just one week left at work of the health insurance open enrollment. I know this week is going to get crazier as it goes along. In preparation for the crazy, I actually have bubbly stored in the work fridge for next Monday, when I close the enrollment (however late that might be).

2. I haven't really mentioned this, but two months ago, I stopped washing my hair with shampoo. I had been reading about "no-pooing," and decided to give it a shot. What I found was that washing my hair with baking soda and vinegar actually worked, though my hair was a little frizzier than with product. However, this week, when I finished the small tub of baking soda in the bathroom, I figured it would be a good idea to use up the arsenal of shampoos under the sink.
Truth: I had last "washed" my hair two days before this picture was taken on Saturday.

3. My golf outing was postponed because of the cold weather yesterday. I'm a little bit relieved. I have come to realize that I don't even own clothing that appropriate for the green. At least this way I have time to get out and get an outfit that looks the part.

4. After reading about the 100 Happy Days Challenge that Miss Angie signed up for. I decided I could use a little more of that in my life, so I signed up too. Yesterday was Day 1, and the happy find for the day was this photo of me and my best friend from our girls trip to New York back in 2010.

I'll be posting a little more on the blog about the 100 Happy Days challenge, but if you want to follow along, catch it all on Instagram.

Monday, March 24

I don't know why I continue to be surprised that some people just choose to be jerks. I can't really get into details, but there is a person not so far removed from us who has been making life hard lately in every way that they can think of.

I KNOW you can't do anything to make these people act differently.
I KNOW that only way you can control the situation is by choosing to ignore them.
I KNOW that someone who constantly stirs up trouble will stop if they don't get any reaction at all.

Nonetheless, it's hard to watch....and even harder not to react. So instead I'm venting here. It's a good thing I believe that if you let someone have enough rope, they'll hang themselves sooner or later.

I'm sorry that this is mostly vague rants; it's not my story to tell, nor is it appropriate for the internet. I promise to back to my normal self tomorrow.

Happy

I've seen a number of themed videos on Facebook lately, using the Pharrell Williams song "Happy", and I can't help but smile when I hear the song. Which is the point, I guess. Anyway, it's perfect for starting a Monday for  what is going to be a very busy work week.

I hope y'all have a good week, friends!

Sunday, March 23

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Welcome to the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

This party is all about sharing those fabulous blogs that you've read through the week and promote our blogger community. I hope it will help you use this party to find new blogs to read and build some new blogger friendships.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. Dana from The Wonder Forest turned the big 3-0 this week. I can remember struggling with that birthday, and I'm glad she's focusing on this list of positive things about starting a new decade.

2. Did you see the awesome stair makeover that Ricki Jill from Art @ Home shared earlier this month? I love it and wish we had stairs in our home so I could be pin-spired as well.

3. I am way too addicted to candy crush, so I could totally related to this list, shared by Lesley from By the Porchlight, of things she could be using that time for rather than playing a game on her phone.

4. My Mug o' Comfort Swap partner Mellissa from A Fit and Spicy Life shared a yummy Greek chicken pita recipe this week that has me drooling. I love that she included her take on a homemade tzatziki sauce that I can't wait to try.

5. I loved reading this post by Katie from Loves of Life about not giving up when things get tough. She's talking fitness and eating healthy, but isn't it just true for everything in life?

Friday, March 21

I fell off the blogging bandwagon hard this month. It's hard when life is so busy to get in front of a screen with time to lay out what's going on. Things should slow down a bit after the first of the month because the health insurance open enrollment will close. My first order of business at that point is to get a massage.

I confess...

I've been rocking and rolling on this chevron wrap. Watch for it as a giveaway prize on a friend's blog soon.

I confess...

After what seems like the longest winter ever. I've been so excited about the sunshine that came out and should stick around through the weekend. It's actually warm enough that the Mister is considering shaving his beard, which makes me a very happy camper.

I need more of this in my life.

I confess...

After months of skipping my Julep Maven box, I was so excited to see this month's Vivid Collections. I confess that I may have been so excited about the bright colors for spring that I may have splurged and upgraded to get all the colors. (If you haven't tried Julep out, you can use my referral link and get an email with a code to get your first box free.)

I confess...

I'm going to try golfing for the first time next week. Sports that involve bats, clubs or racquets have never really been my thing, but my networking group is having a ladies clinic next week, so I figured "why not?" This should be interesting.

Sunday, March 9

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Welcome to the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. This month in the leadership course I'm taking, we're focusing on having right attitudes and putting our energy in what matters, so this 40 Regrets You Don't Want to Have in 40 Years post by Mark and Angel Hack Life really spoke to me.

2. It seems that a lot of a my blog friends are pregnant the second time around. It was a pleasant surprise to see an announcement from Lindsay at Hello Hue that they are expecting Baby Numero Dos.

3. It's Girl Scout Cookie Season (did you see the wine pairing list I shared on Wino Wednesday?), and that brings a whole deluge of cookie recipes. My favorite so far is this Thin Mint Cupcake recipe, shared by Lizzy at Your Cup of Cake

4. We observe Lent in our church, so I usually go for a more serious take on what to give up or take on. But I still enjoyed this humorous list of things that Kenzie from Life & Lemons could or could not give up for Lent.

5. I was actually going to share this post about keeping it real from Danielle at Sweet Southern Girl last week, but there was a problem with her domain. It's nice to see home pictures that don't look a magazine photo. Maybe I'll get brave and share some photos of clutter in my home...because you know we actually live in our house.
