Hello, fellow winos!

Welcome back for this week's Wino Wednesday, co-hosted with Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl. Let me cover the ground rules for the party:
  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday Button
  2. Write a post that is wine-related
  3. Link up and visit with the other partiers

Grab button for WINO WEDNESDAY at HIGH-HEELED LOVE-button
<div class="WINO-WEDNESDAY-HIGH-HEELED-LOVE-button" style="width: 250px; margin: 0 auto;"> <a href="http://www.high-heeledlove.com" rel="nofollow"> <img src="http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/highheeledlove/Blog%20Graphics/WinoWednesdaynewbutton_zpsea48bc45.png" alt="WINO WEDNESDAY at HIGH-HEELED LOVE" width="250" height="188" /> </a> </div>

Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

I know it's not Wednesday yet, but since it is New Year's Eve, I thought it would only be appropriate to start Wino Wednesday a little bit earlier and to make it champagne-themed, just in case you need some inspiration for your festivities this evening.

After all, if you know, you know that I LOVE champagne.

First, let's learn a little more about my favorite bubbly drink.

If you ask me, this is the best way open a bottle of champagne. No more wondering when and where the cork is going to go (which is like gritting your teeth when a balloon is about to be popped.)

No one who shows up with these beautiful bottles should be turned away from the party.

This combination is perfect.

But let's not forget to have something fun for our desinated drivers. Have fun ringing in the New Year tonight, but please drink responsibly. We want to see everyone here in blogland in 2014.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, FRIENDS!

I can't believe that tomorrow is the last day of the year. I know a lot of us are probably looking back over the last year at your accomplishments and lessons.

And in the spirit of looking back at 2013, I though it would be fun to share this year's Pop Danthology by kimaginati0n. (Check out where I shared the 2012 Danthology.)

What were you favorite songs from 2013?

Musical Mondays
Hi everyone!

I am still alive, just swamped. However, I didn't want another week to go by without an update to my blog.

This week's Musical Monday choice my favorite Christmas Carol, covered by The Last Bison. I discovered this gem on Paste's Holiday Sampler 2013. The whole album is worth a listen (and it's free).

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

This is going to be a marathon weekend. We have a Christmas party tonight, birthday party tomorrow and the church Christmas pageant as well as a craft festival to head to on Sunday. Meanwhile, all I want to do is sit on the couch with wine, crochet and the television; maybe on Sunday evening...

I confess...

Sunday is Sweet Baby A's first birthday. It seems like we were just at the hospital welcoming him to the world. I can't believe it's been a year already.

I confess...

I know I've been whining about work a lot on the blog lately. It's been somewhat all consuming. Obamacare is making my hair turn gray. Thank goodness it's Friday.

I confess...

The Mister texted me this picture the other day while I was at my breakfast meeting, and it just made my day. It's nice that somepup is always happy for me to get home.

I confess...

I have no idea what to ask for for Christmas. All the things I need are way too expensive (cabinets for our kitchen remodel) or too subject (new slacks for my work wardrobe) to ask for someone else to shop for me. Is this a sign that I've become an adult or am I just plain difficult?

Musical Mondays
Moving on to week two of December, I thought I'd share this Merle Haggard classic because sometimes that's the way I feel (though for different reasons that losing a job). Just a few more weeks of craziness and then I can take a few days off work.

I heard an awesome cover by South Carolina artist James Etheridge on the local radio station the other day, but it's not available in a digital format for me to share.

Good morning, lovelies!

I hope that y'all have had a fabulous weekend so far. Welcome back for the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos. We want this to be something that focuses on sharing our favorite reads throughout the week so that you can find fabulous, new blogs to read.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

Image source: The Life of Bon

1.Being a blogger can be difficult at times between trying to be true to yourself, create interesting content and represent your life as what it is. Bonnie from The Life of Bon takes a look at the challenges she's faced and also why she blogs.

2. As the Mister and I continue to toward our homemade holiday, I keep looking for gift inspiration. Loving this collection of handmade gift ideas from Lesley at By the Porchlight for great ideas.

3. These burlap candy canes, created by Katelyn at Learning, Creating, Living, is a fun alternative to a wreath for the door.

Image Souce: The Happy Housie
4. I've seen chalk paint used for a lot of things (hello, Pinterest), but I love this chalkboard throw pillow that Krista at The Happy Housie made. It's a fun way to change up your living room decor anytime you fancy.

5. The Mister and I have declared Sundays to be Crafty Sunday in our house. I've been setting a pot of soup on the stove and we work on our gifts. So I've been on the hunt for new soup recipes. This French Onion Soup for two recipe, made by Christie at A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures will fit the ticket just right.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

I'm happy to report that our neighborhood's Christmas tree fundraiser for our local museum was a great success. We sold more than 300 trees and tomorrow we'll be presenting a check to museum at their Christmas event.

I confess...

Tomorrow is our last Brown Box Veggies weekend for the year. It's probably good not to have too much fresh produce around the house considering that this time of year starts including a lot of holiday parties and meals out.

I confess...

For the first time in what feels like forever, I actually painted my nails. I was enamored with Misti, which came in my Julep Maven box this month. Are you a member of Julep? If not, use the code FREEBOX to get your first box free. They are running some fabulous holiday specials. (Affiliate link)

I confess...

The next two weeks at work aren't going to be any less crazy. I have two more big deadlines on Dec. 15 and 23, but at least the Medicare enrollment ends tomorrow.

I confess...

I believe that after the health insurance open enrollment ends in March, I may need to treat myself to a week's vacation and a trip. Any ideas of where I should go?

Hello, friends!

Welcome back for this week's Wino Wednesday, co-hosted with Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl. Let me cover the ground rules for the party:
  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday Button
  2. Write a post that is wine-related
  3. Link up and visit with the other partiers
Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

Now my best friend who lives in California called me on Saturday to say she was ordering my Christmas gift early because she wanted me to be able to start using it right away.

God bless the girl, who must have known how crazy work is lately. This is what arrived in the mail yesterday, and yes, I have already begun using them.
Partie un: A wine coozy from W.I.N.O.S. Inc, which stands for "Women in Need of Sanity"

Partie deux: An active wine cooler. Keep it in the freezer and you can chill a room temperature bottle of wine in no time.

Partie trois: An aerator, which makes drinking the wine tastier faster.

There is a reason the girl and I have been friend for nearly 20 years; she's a girl after my own heart.

Tuesday, December 3

Thanks to Miss Angie's Weekly Round-Up post on Sunday, I discovered a new blog link-up, The Girl Between the Lines, which is being hosted by Hayley from A Beautiful Exchange and Lauren from The Albrecht's Blog. The idea is to share some "real" information about yourself so that we can get know each other better.

This week's prompt is sharing three things that I like about myself, which I believe goes hand-in-hand with Ricki Jill's My Happy List, so I will be linking this post up there today and to The Girl Between the Lines tomorrow.

So what three things do I love about myself? Well, at the risk of sounding shallow, I'm going to talk about physical features. Here are some physical features of my own that make me happy.

When I started thinking about this post, I was surprised that my feet were one of the first physical features that came to mind. I used to hate my feet because they are so big. I wear a size 10, and especially when I was in college and felt like I towered over all my female roommates and that my shoes looked like boats next to their cute little size 6 and 7 sandals. What a funny insecurity to have.

I can thank jujitsu for getting over this insecurity. I can remember that the Mister has treated me to massage with our sensei years before training, and he made a joke to our sensei about my big feet being ugly. Our sensei said they were beautiful and that having big feet was an attribute because I had a better connection to the earth. I don't think either I or the Mister have looked at my feet as anything other than beautiful since.

So some of you may know that my mother passed away when I was in high school, and because we moved from Michigan to the Carolinas when I was about 10 years old, I didn't get to spend much time with her in the years before she passed away. Sometimes, it's hard to feel like I have a lot of connections to her, but I got her hands.

My mom's sister who is my godmother tells me that my hands look just like my mom's, that we both have piano players' hands (though I don't play the piano). It's nice when I have those days where I'm particularly missing my mom to look down at my hands and be reminded that I have a piece of her with me all the time.

For years, I was self conscious about my smile because I didn't have braces when I was a kid and my teeth were slightly stained and that my front teeth were too big. You know what I've discovered since then? Nobody else notices that stuff.

I now love my smile, and it's a pleasure to hear that other people says that my smile is so friendly. My father-in-law recently told the Mister that he loves to see photos where I'm smiling really big because he think I have such a beautiful smile. I think we all need to remember to smile more often because we never know who's day we might brighten.

Our wedding photos were taken by the awesomely talented Chi from Chi Photography. See more of our wedding and engagement photos.

Musical Mondays

Now that Thanksgiving is over, I don't have to feel guilty about listening to Christmas music. I'm sure you've seen this song in previous Musical Monday posts by Miss Angie, but I love it so much. It's the kind of song I listen to all throughout the day without growing tired of it.

Does anyone have recommendations for new holiday albums to check out?

Good morning, lovelies!

I hope that y'all have had a fabulous weekend so far. Welcome back for the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos. We want this to be something that focuses on sharing our favorite reads throughout the week so that you can find fabulous, new blogs to read.

3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. Amy at Lucky Number 13 had the right idea for Thanksgiving week by creating a To-Don't List, which included not doing things such as stressing about grocery shopping, laundry or errands. I think that I need to adopt this for the rest of the month since work won't be getting any better through the end of the year.

2. I am really looking forward to finding a few minutes to begin playing with the new app Instavation, created by Dana from Wonder Forest. It's going to be a lot of fun to create new graphics and fancy up my photos.

3. Let's discuss when we stopping helping each other out if we see someone who needs a favor. Karen at A Peek at Karen's World began pondering this last month when she found herself on the side of the road because her car ran out of gas.

4. These five things that Dana from Dana Renee Style learned from going to her first NFL game are exactly the reason that I prefer to watch football at home or in a bar. (By the way, my Gamecocks won yesterday! Five years in a row against Clemson!)

5. And since we're doing a homemade Christmas this year, I'm on the lookout for great gift ideas such as these 40 Food Gifts, compiled by Kristyn from Lil' Luna.
