Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

Yesterday, we all got dressed up and then drove up to spend Thanksgiving with my family.  Doesn't my pup look cozy and festive.

I confess...

I definitely ate too much yesterday, and we have another dinner to head to tonight. The thing is that I don't have to worry about the calories because I will definitely get my workout in today.

I confess...

Our neighborhood association sponsors a fundraiser where we sell Christmas trees to benefit our local museum, and today I'm running the lot. We women get up on the truck to pull trees down and load them just like the men.

I confess...

If don't work hard enough today, I'm also running the lot tomorrow morning, too.

I confess...

This weekend, the only other thing on my mind will be the Carolina/Clemson game. Go Cocks!

Tuesday, November 26

I feel like I've been slammed lately. Can't think of the last time that I got a blog post written on time. It seems like I'm playing catch up all the time these days...

 photo ArtatHomeButton_zps18898da7.jpg

...which makes me think that I really need to do a quick little Happy List to remind myself to appreciate that I have in my crazy little life.

1. I am HAPPY and thankful for some fabulous ladies who co-host with me on the blog for The Weekly Round-Up and Wino Wednesday. Thank you, Miss Angie and Danielle for covering my rear when I've been so absent lately. I promise to do better next month.

2. I am HAPPY and thankful that my job keeps me busy. Since I work for myself and I'm in sales, I'd really be in trouble if work were slow. I know I always get a little crazy in October, November and December with Medicare annual enrollment, but seriously, the alternative is so much worse.

3. I am HAPPY and thankful that I live in a country where I have amenities like electricity, internet and running water. Our city had a major water main break yesterday and the city was without running water for 18 hours. We just finished up boil advisory. But there are so many parts of the world where clean water isn't an everyday thing, and I can do without for one day. (Though I'm also thankful that I was able to wash my hands and face at the sink today instead of from a gallon jug.)

4. I am HAPPY and thankful that I have a healthy body. I have been so sore from jujitsu because we've been working hard in class, but I see clients all the time who can barely get up the three steps to my office without worrying about falling. I want to stay active as long as my body will allow.

5. I am HAPPY and thankful that I live in a neighborhood where we have community projects. A fellow board member and I are wrapping up a big fundraiser for our local museum this week that has required a lot of work, but we are lucky that our neighbors are generous and value our local history. And we have so many good people who pitch in to help with with work.

6. I am HAPPY and thankful that the Mister and I live close to family and have a good relationships with our parents. We always feel spread a little thin at the holidays trying to spend time with everyone, but there are people whose family isn't close (physically and/or relationship-wise). We are thankful that we have more invitations than we can accept rather than the other way around. And I'm looking forward to multiple Thanksgiving celebrations throughout the weekend.

Want to play along? Click the button link your Happy List with Art @ Home.

And I'm HAPPY this man loves his nephew so much. He's going to a great daddy someday.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

There has been students in the government conference downtown this week, so every time I head to the post office, there are tons of teenagers in blazers and khakis everywhere. This made grabbing a bite to eat before my one o'clock appointment a bit complicated and annoying.

I confess...

The Mister and I have a pizza and movie night date to see Catching Fire this evening, and I just can't wait to get out of the office.

I confess...

It doesn't seem right that Thanksgiving is just next week. Time is going way too fast, but I am looking forward to seeing my family next week.

I confess...

I'm a little bit in love with the guest post that Dana from Dana Renee Style wrote for my blog on Wednesday. The Guest Post Swap, hosted and organized by Chaotic Goddess Swaps was a great (free!) idea for a swap. I hope that's a regular.

Also, if you haven't checked out what I wrote for Dana's blog, head over HERE to check it out.

I confess...

With the close of one swap, I have signed up for another swap hosted by the ladies at Chaotic Goddess Swaps. Last year, I missed out on the 12 Days of Christmas Swap, but I am so in this year.

Partners exchange holiday boxes of filled with 12 days worth of wrapped gifts, which you during the 12 days preceding Christmas. I don't have my partner assignment yet, but I'm already gathering ideas!

Wednesday, November 20

We have a special treat for Wino Wednesday this week. My Blog Swap partner, Dana from Dana Renee Style, has put together some fabulous wino-inspired looks. Check them out, then grab the button and join the party!

Hello lovelies!

My name is Dana Renee, and I blog about life and style over at Dana Renee Style. Thank you so much to Aubrey for letting me take over today and share with you all! In the spirit of fashion and wine, I thought I would draw color inspiration from some favorite beverages to work into your holiday looks.
Merlot Theme Set

Merlot

The deep burgundy hues of merlot are perfectly sum up the essence of fall. This rich color also has the all the flattering effects of black or brown, without being a played out neutral. A deep red dress is a great option for Thanksgiving dinner. If you're going more casual try adding suede burgundy shoes to your jeans and cardigan look. If you're going to be all bundled up in a coat, add a hat or scarf for a pop of color even in the coldest weather.

Best colors to pair with Merlot: Cream, Gray, Beige, Mint Green, Gold, Silver

Rose Wine Set
Rosé

Rosé or Blush evokes a romantic and almost whimsical feel. Even though it's a lighter color, this pretty pastel is appropriate year-round. This pale pink is perfect for a date night dress or pair a blush-tone blouse with skinny jeans and jeweled ballet flats to do your holiday shopping. My favorite thing about this hue is that you can pair it with other light colors like a ivory cardigan to keep it soft or wear it with black tights for a stark contrast. For accessories, rose options are everywhere. Try mixing in a watch, purse, or cocktail ring. Blush pink is also one of the most universally flattering makeup shades. You can wear it light for a subtle flush or build it up for a rosy-cheeked look.

Best colors to pair with Rosé: Gold, White, Black, Brown, Navy, Burgundy

Champagne Set

Champagne

Nothing says it's the holidays to me like a bit of bubbly, so why not work it into your party look? When I think of champagne, I am instantly transported to a Gatsby-esque daydream full of art deco-isnpired details. Try wearing a glamorous beaded dress to a New Year's Eve affair or grab a pair of peep-toe pumps and sleek clutch to wear with your LBD. For everyday wear, mix in a pair of shimmery flats or a patterned blazer with jeans and a cream cami. And don't forget to take care of your hands with a champagne manicure or stunning pair of gloves.

Best colors to wear with Champagne: Silver, Gold, Black, Cream, White, Blush Pink, Lavendar

Many thanks again to Aubrey for allowing me to share here on High-Heeled Love and to the Chaotic Goddess Swaps for pairing us up. I hope this inspires you while putting together your holiday looks! You can always check out Dana Renee Style for more inspiration. What other colors are you loving?

Tuesday, November 19

On Sunday, the Mister and I had his mother over for dinner. She was helping us out by making a curtain for the bathroom window, and her birthday was on Saturday, so we wanted to treat her to a meal.

I had some butternut squash from our last couple Brown Box Veggies boxes, and I wanted to try my hand at another roasted butternut squash soup. So I started out, using this recipe from Calm Healthy Sexy as a guide.
Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
  • 2 butternut squash
  • 3 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 4 Russet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  1. Carefully slice squash in half lengthwise. Scrape out the seeds and most of the fibrous strings. Place the halves cut side down on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment. Bake at 375 until soft all the way through, about 60 minutes. Cool.
  2. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a Dutch oven or soup pot. Add carrots and saute several minutes until soft. Add chicken broth and potato slices and bring to a boil. Boil gently until potato slices are cooked all the way through.
  3. When the squash is cool enough to handle, scoop the pulp out of the skin and into the pot. Add salt and pepper. Cook everything together for 2-3 minutes. Mash the potatoes and carrots with a potato masher, or if you prefer a smoother soup, puree in batches.
  4. Add half and half and coriander to soup and mix in thoroughly. If the soup is too think for you liking, add a little more half and half. Heat through and serve.

So early this morning, I shared this Brave Girls Club photo and daily truth the on High-Heeled Love's Facebook page.
No matter what has happened in every single day that you have lived before today....nothing can take away the beautiful reality that THIS DAY is a brand new start. You can do whatever you want to do with this day.

Let this be THE DAY that you take charge of your one gorgeous amazing up & down miraculous life.

Look into today's face and gently say......"this is it, ....we are gonna do this...."

ready, set....go....

Let this be THE DAY that you take charge of your one gorgeous amazing up & down miraculous life.
Look into today's face and gently say......"this is it, ....we are gonna do this...."
ready, set....go....

And one of my friends commented with a link to this song by Carolyn Arends, which seemed as good a choice as any for Musical Monday.

I know I've heard someone else more mainstream cover this song, but I can't put my finger on it. Can anybody else tell me who it is?

Good morning, lovelies!

I hope that y'all have had a fabulous weekend so far. Welcome back for the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos. We want this to be something that focuses on sharing our favorite reads throughout the week so that you can find fabulous, new blogs to read.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. It is definitely getting to be the time of year, where I have to give my skin a little help in the moisture department. This quick olive oil and sugar scrub, shared by Laura at La Caseta De Paper, is an easy natural way to do that.
Photo credit: La Caseta de Paper

2. Christina from Easily Entertained shared a wish list she put together based on Oprah's favorite things. I love some of these items as gift ideas. Isn't the idea of a cherry cordial nativity set the cutest?

3. As a young woman who works in an older man's field, it's important that I present the right image when I have sales calls, but I still want to be stylish. Because of this, I loved this post from Morgan at Makeshift Margaritas about long-sleeved dresses for the office that all cost less than 150 dollars. We gotta help each find the deals, right?

4. I read a lot of Veteran's Day posts last week, but none touched me like this one, which was written by Mary from The Dudley Family. Mary's husband died in Afghanistan, and in this post, she recounts each of the service members who stood by her husband and family during that tragic time. (I went to high school with Mary and TJ, so their story always strikes close to home for me.)

5. I came across this list of things that people should take time to do again , written by Brianna at the Thought Catalogue, while blog-jogging this week, and had to share it. I bet everyone can find a few things on the list that they'd like to re-incorporate in their busy lives. Me? I want to start writing handwritten letters again, rather than text or email.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

I refuse to decorate for Christmas until after thanksgiving, but I can't make the same promises when it comes to Christmas carols. I've been listening to holiday music on pandora all week.

This probably wouldn't happen if there were Thanksgiving songs, but this is the only one that I'm aware of.

I confess...

Last night the mister and I had some neighbors over for dinner and to watch The Hunger Games. I am so excited that Catching Fire is opening next weekend. Who else will be going to see it?

I confess...

Parts of Columbia got snow the other day. We just had freezing rain and sleet at our house, and just that was enough to make me severely unhappy. I've said this before, but I don't do cold gracefully.

I confess...

I was going through some old blog posts the other day and realized that when I first started blogging, I used a lot of magazine photos in my recipe posts. Now that I'm more experienced as a blogger, I've come to realize that I need my own photos, which means that I'll be making a lot of these dishes again soon to update the posts.

I confess...

I feel badly that I haven't mentioned this before, but I'm signed up for the guest blog post swap with  Chaotic Goddess Swaps. Next week, I'll be guest posting on my partner's blog, Dana Renee Style, and she'll be posting here. We've been brainstorming on ideas for the posts, and let's just say I think she's going to writing a wine-themed post. Dana is a girl after my own heart.

Click Chicks Blog Photography Challenge
I discovered the Click Chick Photo Challenge last week on Krystal's blog, Krystal's Kitch. I don't know how I missed this party for so long, but definitely needed to join this week. If you want to get in on the fun, click the button

The theme for the week was humor, and around our house, the best way to have a laugh is to spend a little time with our pup, Paige. I mean, just look at her hamming it up for the camera. She seriously starts posing the minute that point a phone in her direction.

Paige is a wiggly mess of a dog. She likes to act like a big dog and bark ferociously as guests while running away from them. Once she warms up to you, she's in your face all the time. When she gets excited, it's like a slinky is loose in the house, and she loves to run around and play when we're in the backyard.

Here are some of my older favorites from instagram.
And according to Statigram, this is my most liked photo ever. So I guess I'm not the only one who loves my pup.

And I also wanted to share this video series from Le Creuset. They have a master sommelier to help you learn all about wine.

1. Miranda from Slashed Beauty discussed a trend amongst young girls of posting youtube videos that ask if they are pretty or ugly. It makes me sad to see what beauty ideals can do to young women, but these just girls....and seeking validation on the internet shows you just where we are. I think we should all go hug the girls in our life and tell them how beautiful they are.

2. I don't know about you, but as I've gotten older, I've become more selective of the people I spend time with, and Kita from KoKoa Magazine gets where I'm coming from. She shares some of the red flags that might cause her to back off becoming friends with some people.

Photo: The Owl Club
3. A number of my bloggy friends are planning to approach this Christmas as a homemade holiday like us. I particularly like Suki from The Owl Club's take on planning a Care Christmas.

4. And Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos may be my co-host for this party, but her Friday Confessional post this week could not have made me more proud of her. So happy she is loving herself and being so brave. Serious one of my favorite reads all week.
