Hello, friends!

Welcome back for this week's Wino Wednesday, co-hosted with Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl. Let me cover the ground rules for the party:
  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday Button
  2. Write a post that is wine-related
  3. Link up and visit with the other partiers
Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

Want to play along? Grab the button and link your Wino Wednesday post below.

So between work, company coming and the jujitsu clinic starting tomorrow, I could really go for a glass of wine. I guess it will have to be plum wine since the Mister and I are taking some of the jujitsu guests out for sushi this evening.

In the meantime, share your Wino Wednesday adventures below.

Good morning, lovelies!

I hope that y'all have had a fabulous weekend so far. Welcome back for the Weekly Round-Up linky party, hosted by me and Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos. We want this to be something that focuses on sharing our favorite reads throughout the week so that you can find fabulous, new blogs to read.

So, here are the rules:

1. Grab the button.
2. Write a little list of your favorite reads this week and why.
3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. Melissa at Lulu and Sweet Pea discusses bullying and how she and her son handled a situation when he was faced with bullies at school.

2. Tanee at From Fat to Fit Chick has lost 200 pounds, and she discusses some of the changes that worked for her as part of her new lifestyle and weight loss.

3. If you're looking for a fun, kid-friendly Halloween dinner, these witch hat pizza bites, shared by Christie at A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures, are a lot of fun.

4. Further fueling my kitten fever, Jennifer from Busy Being Jennifer shared adorable photos of her two kittens.

5. If you need a few ideas for the bar at your Halloween parties, check out the four fall cocktails that Heather from Glitter and Gloss collected.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

We've been fighting sickness in our house. I'm blaming the Mister. He was complaining that his throat was scratchy the other day, and now we're both congested and sneezy. Luckily, we both seem to be on the mend.

I confess...

That cool nights and possible sickness mean a lot of soup and hot tea gets made at our house. Maybe this will be the year that I finally share our chili recipe on the blog. And I have a spicy sausage and kale soup recipe that everyone should know about.

I confess...

I take a lot of pride in the dishes that we've learned to make from scratch. Sometimes the convenience of ready-made food wins out, but there is nothing like a homemade dish in which I know I've picked out every ingredient.  I love when nothing came from a box or a can or a jar.

I confess...

The Mister made me watch this video of a baby getting his first bath yesterday, and it's so darn adorable. Not cute enough to make me want a baby of my own yet, but close.

I confess...

Our jujitsu clinic is next week, and I'm super excited for the few extra days of special training and to see some friends from around the country. Who would have thought that three days of intense martial arts training wound become one of my favorite events of the year?

So here's what's on my lust list this week. So a couple weeks ago, I came across Shoes of Prey, where you can design your own shoes. They are then hand-crafted by a cobbler and shipped to your door.

I can't quite afford a pair yet, but that does mean I'm not having fun creating. Here are a couple pairs I've designed online.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

I have kitten fever bad! Last night, the Mister and I laid in bed and watched kitten videos on our phones. Here is my favorite:

I confess...

The Mister and I are headed to the State Fair tonight if it doesn't rain. The fair always makes for good people watching...and the fair food. Yum!

I confess...

I need one more workday this week. I know that sounds crazy, but I just haven't had enough time to get everything done.

I confess...

I'm super excited to put my Swapoween package in the mail this weekend. My partner, Christie from A Kitchen Hoor, has never participated in this particular swap before; it's always fun to shop for a newbie and spoil them.

I confess...

We have a couple Halloween parties coming up, and I don't have a clue as far as costumes. We need something fun, but not too expensive. Of course, we could always just recycle from the last few years.

It's been a while since I've done a Happy List, so I figure we ought to remedy that. If you're not familar, the Happy List linky is hosted weekly by Ricki Jill from Art @ Home, and the idea is to spend some time focusing on the good in your life.

So here's what's been on my Happy List the last few weeks:

1. Being in the final phases of the bathroom/hallway remodel. I know we've been here since this summer, but we really are almost done, and this weekend will be the big push to touch up the last of the painting. So looking forward to this project being wrapped up.

2. Heading to the Mister's 20 Year High School reunion last weekend. We had a great time re-connecting with his classmates.

3. Getting to celebrate fellow Palmetto Blogger and my Wino Wednesday co-host Danielle's marriage. She was a beautiful bride. Be sure to head over to congratulate her at Sweet Southern Girl.

4.  Fall and all the food that comes along with it. Last weekend, we made spicy pumpkin soup and whole wheat pumpkin pancakes. Yum.

5. Coming home to good mail. Miss Angie from My So-Called Chaos has been telling me she had put a surprise in with the nail polish painting I ordered. Isn't it beautiful? If you want some of her artwork, head over to her etsy shop.

I've already shared how much I'm loving the new album from The Civil Wars; so it's absolutely no surprise that when they released the official video for "Dust to Dust" last week, I was all over that. I'm loving this video...and it makes me want to visit Paris even more.

3. Link up below and go find some fabulous new ladies to be friends with.

That said, here were my favorite reads lately:

1. I love a good list of life lessons...and this life manifesto shared by Aubrey at The Daily Simple has good food for thought.

2. Amber at Brunch with Amber has been actively focusing on performing a daily act of kindness this month, and she's been sharing them on her blog. It's been really inspiring to read about her experiences.

3. Since we all need a new coffee recipe on the regs, check out this simple Vietnamese Iced Coffee recipe shared by Chantilly from Chantilly Songs.

4. I don't have cable so this probably won't help me out much, but I'm really loving this television commercial workout that Katie at KTJ Weighing In blogged about.

5. I've been wanting to try grilled pizza for a while, so I was thrilled to find that Hannah from Flamingos in Raincoats shared THREE recipes for grilled pizza this week.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

When the internet goes does at my office, I am rendered pretty much useless. I was able to get some filing and organization done, but those aren't the things that pay the bills. Thankfully, I was only without access for about an hour....though my gmail won't load so I'm still kind of handicapped.

I confess...

I have spilled my coffee twice this morning...that's what kind of day this is shaping up to be.

I confess...

I may have to treat myself to sushi for lunch to try to turn it around.

I confess...

This is going to be a busy weekend. We have the Mister's 20 year high school reunion and Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl's wedding. Make sure you go congratulate her.

I confess...

I have no idea what I'm going to wear to either event. I may have to take myself shopping after sushi to remedy this dilemma.

Easy peezy. Now on to the wine.

Let's talk a little wine-related music. Yesterday, I fell in love with this song by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. (And if you happen to be a Palmetto Blogger, he's playing in SC twice this month - Greenville tomorrow and Charleston next week.)

The Wine We Drink

Written by Drew Holcomb.

I have a tendency to laugh at all the wrong moments. Sometimes I forget the words to my own songs.
I'm not the silent type, or a exit sign, or a yellow brick road. You are the one thing that I know.

It's in the wine we drink, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink, When the lights go out till the sun comes up, we are not alone. It's in the miles we drive, never having to say goodbye,
It's the things we tell each other, without saying a word.
You are the one thing that I know.

There's a beauty, that we never know what the future holds, Beneath the surface, we are the calm we are the storm
I'm not a sunset, or a hurricane or a Vincent Van Gogh. You are the one thing that I know.

It's in the wine we drink, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink, When the lights go out till the sun comes up, we are not alone. It's in the miles we drive, never having to say goodbye
It's the things we tell each other, without saying a word,
You are the one thing that I know.

Good morning, lovelies!

Confession is good for the soul, so grab the button and let it all out. You'll feel better when you're finished.

I confess...

We turned our cable off a couple months ago, and now that fall television is back on I've been blindsided by spoilers. I'm going to have to be more careful if I don't want to know what's going on before watching the episode.

I confess...

I fully expected this week to be crazy this week, but the phone has been surprisingly quiet, which I'm sure means that I'm going to catch it next week. For now though, I'm going enjoy the brief reprieve and try to get caught up on the administrative chores.

I confess...

My baby brother and his girlfriend are coming to visit this weekend to celebrate his birthday, and I'm really looking forward to spending some time with them.

I confess...

Tomorrow is a Brown Box Veggies weekend, and we're in dire need of the produce. There are going to be pie pumpkins this weekend, and the service has posted a recipe for spicy pumpkin soup. That is definitely going on the menu next week.

I confess...

I'm twelve kinds of excited for the Swapoween. Can't wait to get my partner assignment. You still have time to sign up if you want in on the fun.

Thursday, October 3

Y'all! Where is the year going?!

So three days into October, and I just can't believe that we're here already. October begins the busiest time of year for me. It's not just that I start holiday planning in October. (Did you see our 2013 holiday card the other day?)

I get super-busy at work the last quarter of the year. I'm in insurance so obviously the health insurance enrollment that began on Tuesday is affecting me. Also the Medicare annual enrollment starts on the 15th.

And we have our fall clinic at the dojo. This year, the Mister and I are hosting a friend who is flying in from Hawaii to train.

Plus there are birthdays and Halloween to celebrate.

Monthly Goals

In light of all this, it almost seems futile to set monthly goals, but I'm going to do it anyway. First, let's look back at September.

  1. Get back to the running program and complete my 5K at the end of the month. Incomplete - Our groupons for the race weren't valid so we decided to postpone the running to October.
  2. Spend some time journalling at least once per week. FAIL - Nope, not even once, which is a shame because I really miss journalling.
  3. Get my jujitsu notebook updated and re-written with all corrections from my exam. Incomplete - I did go over the corrections with my partner, but I haven't done any updates
  4. Sit down with the Mister and update our budget. PASS - We even created a spreadsheet to track when the bills are due and got a plan together for savings and paying off our credit cards.
  5. Bake that bread and pizza dough. Incomplete - I have the ingredients and they're on the meal plan for this week.
  6. Go through the closet. FAIL - This needs to happen, but I probably won't have time, and after reviewing our budget, I'm not going to try to update this season unless a replacement item is absolutely necessary.
  7. Help the Mister plan our fall garden and actually blog on our gardening blog. Incomplete - The Mister has ordered seeds; our garlic came in this week! But we didn't get to the blog.

Honestly, with all the work classes I had to complete last month, I'm not even going to feel badly that I only completed one goal. As far as I'm concerned, the goal I did accomplish was the most important on the list.
Sneak peek on the remodel progress

So what are the goals for October?
  1. Begin the running program. The Mister has agreed to do this week me; I think having a partner will help with accountability.
  2. Go walking with the pup and the Mister for at least 30 minutes twice a week.
  3. Log all workouts on the Daily Mile.
  4. Wrap up the hallway & bathroom renovations and blog about it.
  5. Update my jujitsu notebook.
  6. Attend our jujitsu clinic and take two classes to that challenge my comfort zone.
  7. Help the Mister plant the fall garden.
  8. Blog on our gardening blog.
  9. Treat myself to a pedicure or massage at the end of the month because I know I'll be crazy stressed from work.
  10. Spend some time each week writing and reading for fun.
It's a long list this month; so, let's see how much I can get done!

Hello, friends!

Welcome back for this week's Wino Wednesday, co-hosted with Danielle from Sweet Southern Girl. Let me cover the ground rules for the party:
  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday Button
  2. Write a post that is wine-related
  3. Link up and visit with the other partiers
Easy peezy. Now on to the wine. I'll be in training most of the day, so this is all I've got!

And I want one of these when we finish our kitchen/dining remodel.

Want to play along? Grab the button and link your Wino Wednesday post below.

It's hard to believe that it's already October, which officially means that start of holiday preparation for me. Last weekend, I went ahead and designed our Christmas cards via Shutterfly.

Do you do photo cards? Where do you order your cards from?
