Yesterday, I was pleased to come home and find my Books n' Bloggers Swap package waiting in the mailbox. I love good mail! The swap was handled Round Robin style, and I didn't know who my package was coming from until it arrived.

It turns out that my package came from Jodie at Nocturnal Ravings. Her note said that this was her first swap. So I'm flattered to welcome her to the party of swap goodness. Unfortunately, she didn't distinguish which book was intended for what category, so I'm guessing a little, but here are the three books that she sent me:

I know this book was on my wishlist.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
I think this is the book that Jodie hasn't read but thinks I will enjoy. (She'd be right, too; I love Philippa Gregory.)
A Respectable Trade
Based on the genre of books she's reviewed on her blog, I think this is the book that Jodie loves. I've read a lot of young adult vampire novels, but no werewolf fan fiction before, so it should be an interesting change. Also, this happens to be an advanced copy, which is cool.
Nightshade: Book 1
So it looks like I have some fun, new reading ahead of me. Thanks, Jodie, for a fun swap package.

As it turns out, I mailed my package to one of the organizers, Beth from Living a Goddess Life. Go see what I sent her. Also be sure to go to Chaotic Goddess Swaps to read about everyone's new books.

Photobucket
Hi everyone!

Welcome back for this week's Wino Wednesday. Danielle from Secrets of a Sweet Southern Girl and I are awfully excited about this linky party and hope that you'll join in. Be sure to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post.

Before we get started on this week's fun, let me cover the ground rules for the party:
  1. Grab the Wino Wednesday Button
  2. Write a post that is wine-related
  3. Link up and visit with the other partiers

Easy peezy. Now on to the wine...this week, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite places to buy wine.
Actually, World Market is one of my favorite stores period. I love that I can buy all my home furnishings in the same store that I can find lots of fun ethnic foods from around the world. For example, I'm loving this look for a bedroom.

But back to their wine. I don't discriminate. I'll buy wine at the grocery store, package store or go to a shop that has more specialty options. And one of the things that I love about World Market is that they have a great variety of wines from all around the world to try, and you can bring a new bottle home of quality wine to try for very affordable prices.

So tell me, where do you go to try new varieties? And what's your favorite place to get fun home decoration items?

Want to play along? Grab the button and link your Wino Wednesday post up with me and Danielle below. Please comment after linking.
Now I want to be clear, this isn't a sponsored post; I'm just sharing a store that I really enjoy. But that doesn't mean this week's giveaway isn't from World Market; after all it was a great excuse to to go shopping there.

This week's Wino Wednesday prize is sponsored right here at High-Heeled Love.

And don't forget the other Wino Wednesday we have running through the end of January.
  1. Rewined Candle in scent of your choice
  2. What's Your Ista t-shirt
  3. January Vine group giveaway
  4. Wine Rescue Drops

Lately, my favorite Pandora station has been my Matchbox 20 station....mostly because it plays a lot of alternative rock from when I was in high school. But I can't help but sing along when this song comes on. It's so darn catchy.

Clearly, I'm going to be purchasing the new Matchbox 20 album.

P.S. I apologize that this post is publishing late. It was scheduled to go live earlier and didn't publish as expected.

Sunday, January 27

January is just flying away. I've been pretty busy with work this week, but still found time to get some blog reading done. Here are my favorites this week.

1. As you probably know, Wednesday was National Pie Day. I am so thinking about making this pie recipe, shared by Art @ Home, to surprise the Mister when he gets home tomorrow.

2. This week, The Mommy Mess shared this post about writing blog posts that are easily shareable. I found some great tips in here, and thought some of my readers might enjoy it.

3. I am adoring Ashlie's initial designs for her tattoo. Can't wait to see how what her finished idea looks like.

4. For a little girly fun, I really enjoyed Meg. O's tutorial on a daytime smoky eye with the Naked palette. I found it to be helpful since I own this palette and use it a lot for daytime makeup.

5. It's always fun to come across pretty things for your blog design. This week, Chelsea shared her favorite free fonts on the blog. Which one is your favorite?

And since it's always flattering to see yourself on others' blogs, here's places you can see my mug in the last week: Operation Beautiful and My So-Called Chaos.

P.S. I apologize that this Round-Up post is publishing late. It was scheduled to go up automatically and did not publish as expected.

I will be linking this up with the following:

Good morning, lovelies!

Okay, so if you read Mamarazzi's blog, you probably already know that she's decided to pass her weekly parties along to new permanent homes while she adjust to some changes in her life and eases her way back into blogging.

The Happy List party is being held at Art @ Home on Tuesdays. And Friday Confessional is being held here at High-Heeled Love! And check out the snazzy new button that Mamarazzi made for me. So let's get on to the dirt because confessional is good for the soul.

I confess...

Last night, I stayed up late to finish Mindy Kaling's book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I loved it; of course, I'm a fan of any book that makes me laugh aloud. It reminded me a lot of another favorite book, which is also a collection of humorous essays, but I don't want to share the title because I'm sending it in my bloggy book swap package today. I don't want to spoil the surprise for my partner.

I confess...

I was also staying up late waiting for the Mister to call me since he was out of town last night. I don't like going to bed when he's travelling without know he arrived safely. Now I'm ready for him to get home.

I confess...

I let the Mister go out of town without realizing we were out of coffee pods for the Keurig. We have beans, but I've never used our grinder or used ground coffee to make coffee in the Keurig; it's much easier to just pop a pod in and push the button. I realize I'm spoiled. I could probably figure it out, but really a visit to Starbucks is probably in order.

I confess...

The weather forecast is calling for "wintry mix" again this weekend, and I am not happy about it. I really don't like to be cold. Besides, wintry mix is just  fancy way of saying sleet. There's nothing fun about sleet.

I confess...

This "wintry mix" really makes me want to take a mental health day from work, but I just cannot do it today. There's too much to catch up on, but I might take the pup into work with me.  Last night, she was curled up in the chair, sleeping, and she kept barking in her dreams. It was the cutest thing ever.

Okay, now it's your turn to share your confessional posts. Grab the button and link up below. Please comment after linking.

Miss Angie from Health NOT to Health NUT (and also My So-Called Chaos) was kind enough to give me the Liebster Award.

The award consists of giving 11 random facts about yourself and answering some questions. Then you make up new questions and send the award along to some others.

I've received similar awards before that require random facts, so I'm not going to completely follow all the rules. If you'd like to know more random facts about me, check out my other awards. But in the interest of not being a complete party-pooper, I am going to answer Miss Angie's questions.

  1. What is your number one hope for 2013? I don't know if I ever formally blogged about it, but my word for 2013 is "Balance." Last year was almost completely about work, and then I'd get so burned out, I wouldn't have energy for anything else. I want to feel more peaceful in my responsibilities this year.
  2. What changes are you making for yourself this year? I'm sticking to my guns when it comes to taking care of me and my family. That means saying "no" sometimes and not trying participate in everything. That also means know when to leave the office and to make sure I schedule time for fun because if I don't make time for me, it won't happen.
  3. What inspires you to keep blogging? I have made an awesome group of friends in the blog world, and most of the time, connecting with them and visiting their blogs is inspiration enough. (Cliche, I know.)
  4. Who do you blog for? I blog for me. This is definitely my girly outlet, and sometimes it's the only creative part of my day.
  5. Where do you see your blog in 5 years? Hopefully, it won't change that much; I really like my blog just the way it is....though I wouldn't mind if I were making a little money from it by then. Of course, if I'm being realistic, it might be a mommy blog by then. If we're going to start a family, I expect that to happen in the next five years.
  6. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a writer and journalist. My goal was to work for the New York Times. I'd still like to write and maybe be published, but I'm pretty happy with what my career has actually turned out to be.
  7. What is your greatest accomplishment? LOL! I'm still so young; I don't want to define that yet. I guess to this point, I'm in my early thirties, and I own my own company. That's a pretty big deal. Of course, I'll feel better when the bank doesn't technically own it.
  8. What advice would you give someone trying to get healthy? Don't weigh yourself everyday. Focus on what makes you feel good, not the numbers. For me, I know that I'm making good choices when my jeans feel good. Don't try to change everything all at once. Pick one new healthy habit each week and focus on that until you get it. If you didn't get it that week, keep it into the next one. Surround yourself with people who are truly cheerleaders of your success, but will tell you to get your butt back to work when you slack off (because you will).
  9. What's your fondest childhood memory? Camping on the Upper Peninsula with my dad and my little brother. Also baking oatmeal raisin cookies at my grandparents house.
  10. Do you have a favorite pair of shoes? If so what are they? Nope. Given the title of this blog, I have too many loves in my closet to pick just one pair. Check back on Saturdays to see the shoes I'm lusting after.
  11. What is one health trend you wish would just disappear? These days, it's the gluten-free marketing trend that's everywhere. Gluten Intolerance and Celiac's disease is an actual medical condition that can be quite serious. I hate the way that eating "gluten-free" has become such a marketing buzzword. Actually, I'm not really a fan of any "diet" that focuses on cutting out a specific food type; your body needs carbs and sugar and fat in moderation. I'd much rather there were more focus on balanced eating and less chemicals going into our food. My husband can wax poetic on how much trouble we're getting into with commercial farms and GMOs, but that's a soapbox for another day.

So I'm not going to tag anyone for this award. If you'd like to play along, feel free to answer Miss Angie's questions as well. Leave a comment here so I can come check it out, and maybe stop by Health NOT to Health NUT to let Miss Angie know you're answering her questions as well.

Monday, January 21

Sometimes, I feel like a bit of a broken record with my Musical Monday posts because truly I could feature the same three or four artists week after week and be happy.

I definitely talked about my love of Jana Kramer (who played Alex Dupree on One Tree Hill) when her self-titled album released in June 2012. I have a huge girl crush on her, and last week, she tweeted that her new video had been featured on Rolling Stone's website.

You may recognize the song "Whiskey," which she performed it on One Tree Hill during the last season. I hope you enjoy the official video as much as I do.
