Thursday, August 30

To borrow from a friend's FB status:
Do you remember when you were a kid and you would count down the days to Christmas? On Christmas Eve, you would be so excited you could barely sleep. You'd wake up really early and run to the Christmas tree to see all of the presents that weren't there the night before. Then you would try to go wake up your parents, and they would refuse to get out of bed and you had to wait a few more agonizing hours to open presents... This is how I feel about work on Gamecock game day!

Kickoff against Vanderbilt is at 7 p.m. today. I bet we know what I'll be doing.

Darius Rucker's new single released today, and I'm really enjoying it. Since Darius is a South Carolina native, the local country station here in Columbia is playing it every hour. If this song is any indication of the rest of his album, which releases later this fall, I know I'll be buying the album as soon as it releases.

"True Believers"is being called a marriage anthem. I'm curious to see how many times I see it pop up in wedding recaps next spring. (We had his song "Alright" on our wedding soundtrack.)

What albums are you looking forward to releasing later this year?

Friday, August 24

I don't have a whole lot to confess this morning...mostly, I'm preoccupied with football starting next week and our trip to Michigan.

So I thought I'd share some of the things that the Mister has shared with me on Facebook. He says they make him think of me.

What do you think he's trying to tell me?

I'm linking up this week with Tara from Fabulous but Evil and Vicki from My Vickilicious Life for the Nail Files party. This is the manicure I have been wearing this week.
This is Mischa by Julep. The accent nail is Daisy by Julep with Electrify (glitter) from the Hunger Games collection by China Glaze. I picked these colors to go with this dress, which I wore for my birthday dinner last week.

P.S. If you've never heard of Julep, I talk more about the program, HERE. You can still sign up and get your first month for just a penny (shipping included) by using promo code "PENNY".

1. At the tip-top of my HAPPY list this week is great friends. We had an awesome time for my birthday dinner on Saturday, and that completely because my friends are awesome. There aren't picture to share; we were having too much fun to stop and take pictures.

2. I am too HAPPY about road tripping up to Michigan next month to see family. I'm really hoping there is some fall weather so that I can wear long sleeves and jackets. The weather here in SC has been cool for August, but it is still so darn humid.

3. Being sore in a good way after a workout makes me HAPPY. Last week I overdid it a little bit and had to have my sensei work on my arm. That taught me a good lesson about slowing down a little, but most of the time, I wake up the next morning with those sore muscles that mean I've had a really good class in jujitsu the night before. Today is one of those days.

4. Spending a morning with a cup of coffee and Pinterest is a HAPPY way to start the day. On Sunday, the Mister was kind enough to cook breakfast and make coffee and let me just pin to my heart's delight.  My boards are now all organized, and I have picked a few projects to start within the next few weeks. If you'd like to follow along on Pinterest, you can do so HERE.

5. Gamecock football starts next week! I can't tell you how HAPPY and excited I am!

I'm not sure that I've mentioned it before on my blog, but the Goo Goo Dolls are my absolute favorite band of all time, and when I'm down or in a "blah" mood, I put them on the iTunes and go back to my high school days of young love and no bills.

Saturday, August 18

It's been a while since I've done a Shoe Lust Saturday post. The weekends are very busy around my house, and I don't usually find time to blog, but this morning I needed to email a few clients so I find myself with a cup of coffee and an open laptop.

This week, I wanted share some of my favorite pink shoes from Pinterest (everyone's favorite source of inspiration). Enjoy the girliness!

Happy Saturday, lovelies!

Because confession is good for the soul
I confess...

Last week I was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and I got to dance with Mr. Potato Head. The Mister and I were invited to an 80s-themed Olympics party, and we had a lot of fun.

I confess...

My birthday week is still going strong. This weekend we're headed out with friends for Hibachi. I love some Japanese steakhouse, and it's been years since we've gone out for it. Yum, yum, yum.

I confess...

My best buddy is coming into town this evening to spend the weekend with me for my birthday, and I have not done a thing to the house for him. There are new clothes all over the guest bedroom bed and the bathroom desperately needs cleaning. I am so planning on leaving work early today to get this taken care of.
At my birthday last year.

I confess...

I've taken to bribing myself to eat breakfast in the morning. (You may remember that is one of my August goals.) These days, breakfast has be eaten if I want that second cup of coffee or to stop by Starbucks for an afternoon treat. I don't like that I have to bribe/blackmail myself into breakfast, but I'm going to do whatever it takes to establish the habit.

I confess...

I love my MIL. Not only did she take us out to dinner on my birthday Tuesday...not only did she bake me a carrot cake and make frosting from scratch...not only did she spoil me in birthday gifts (hello gift cards to Loft and Starbucks), but she also let me shop her closet this week. Her water heater is in the back of her closet, and it burst on Sunday. As a result we helped her haul a lot of clothing out (and the Mister tore the carpet out), and she and I went through a lot of it to send to live in my closet.

Now I know a lot of ladies that wouldn't think of wearing their MIL's clothes, but my MIL is hip. She shops at Chicos, White House Black Market, J. Crew and Loft. And now my fall office wardrobe is completely updated with new jackets, sweaters and tops without a dime out of pocket for either of us. She even hand-sewed new sparkly buttons on a denim shirt for me so it would have more "character."

I am really blessed in my marriage. I have an awesome Mister and an even more awesome MIL.

Thursday, August 16

Today has been the sort of day where not much has been accomplished. It's wonderfully sunshine-y outside, and I'd rather be sprawled out on a blanket outside with a good book in my hand.

Though I have plenty on my bookshelves right now, I'm always looking for new titles for my "To Be Read" list. Tell me, what are you reading?

Today is my 29 (again) birthday so I'm going to be a little self-centered and make this a birthday Happy List. =)

1. Waking up to a birthday phone call from my dad makes me HAPPY. My folks were also awesome enough to visit on Sunday and take us out to lunch.

2. During lunch today, I headed into the dojo for a jujitsu fix. Day class is such a different dynamic than the evening class. I really wish I had time to go to both, but it was nice to sneak an extra workout in today. Improving my rolls and falls makes me immensely HAPPY.

3. Funny birthday cards. I'm always HAPPY to get good mail, and this year, my friends and family have sent some really thoughtful cards and gifts.

4. Chatting with my brother on the phone makes me HAPPY. He gave me a quick call yesterday, and it was great to catch up. It's funny how that 3-hour time difference can get in the way with keeping in touch, but my brother and SIL makes a great effort to stay connected even from far away.

5. Birthday pizza and homemade birthday cake. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY.
