I confess...

I threatened last weekend to put one of the dogs up for adoption. Last Friday, I took a half-day at work so that I could bake a cake for the Mister's birthday. I decided at the last minute to make cupcakes instead.

Now, I'm a messy baker, so I was SO proud of myself because I managed to not drip batter everywhere. (Tip from my friend who did the cupcakes at my wedding, use an ice cream scoop to spoon the batter into the cupcake papers.)

I had them cooling on the kitchen table, and while I was in the shower, my pup Paige ATE half of them, papers and all! I was shocked. She's never pulled food off the table before. She's lucky that she's so cute.

I confess...

I love when I can have a morning coffee date with the Mister. Every now and then I can be a little late to work and go down the coffee shop that he likes. He makes me coffee at home every morning anyway, but it's still a special treat to go out for coffee with him.
I confess...

That on the note of coffee, the Mister's aunt gave me a 30 dollar gift card to Starbucks this week. That woman certainly knows the way to my heart. =) So now I can sneak away for a little treat in the afternoons, too.

I confess...

The weather forecast calls for it to be 100 degrees or higher for the next four days. Gotta love South Carolina summers. I'm planning to live in the pool this weekend.

I confess...

That's about all I have to share right now. The other things going on this month are work-related, and I just don't want to go to into that here.

Happy Friday, Lovelies!

Yesterday, I came across this fun blog networking idea, and I wanted to share it with y'all. Shane at Whispering Sweet Nothings created an interactive blogger map. You enter your blog and location, and she creates a little pin for your blog on the map. The map turns into a giant blog directory.

Then you can explore and meet other blogs that live in your area (or really any city where you want to find more bloggers). I'm still waiting on my blog to be added, but in the meantime, I've found these other fun South Carolina blogs to read and enjoy.

The Mister sent this to me yesterday, and it was too good not to share:

The Wizard of Oz
In other news, I can't wait until Saturday when some girlfriends and I have a date to see Magic Mike. I'm really looking forward to the eye candy.

Warning! Bear in mind that movie is rated R and intended for adult audiences before playing the preview.

My Happy List might be going up a little late today, but there's plenty to be HAPPY about.

Photobucket

1. First it makes me HAPPY that the Mister said he would join me for the Color Run. Registration for the Charlotte run opened a few minutes ago, and we're both signed up. Within a few minutes of signing up, we saw on facebook that another couple we know is also going, so maybe we'll all run together.

2. On that note, I actually got up early to start my running program this morning. I am so thankful and HAPPY that the weather was mild today. It was breezy and in the seventies....considering that it's not at all unusual for the humidity and temperatures to be way beyond that at this time of the year, I figured that I couldn't ask for better.

3. Further, I'm really HAPPY that at my jujitsu school, it is just as important that the healing art taught alongside the martial art. Our sensei is constantly stressing how important it is to keep everyone safe. Last night while we were grappling, I accidentally got my right elbow hyper-extended; I should have tapped sooner. I'm really thankful that my sensei was able to take a look at it right then and make the adjustments so that a little thing didn't turn into a painful injury this morning.

And hey, since the Mister has taken the healing art course, I sure don't complain when he busts out the massage table at home. Deep tissue massage makes me extremely HAPPY.

4. Rooting for my Gamecocks makes me HAPPY. Last night, we got home from class in time for me to watch the last inning of the College World Series. I really thought right up to the last hit that we were going to win the game. And even though we didn't win the series this year (a THREPEAT would have been nice), we did wind up in the final series again for a third year in a row. Five college world series qualifications in the last 15 years and two back-to-back championships isn't a little thing. I'm really proud of the team.

5. I'm HAPPY that the Mister had a fantastic birthday....and now I'm totally going to share you with photos from the party.
This balloon was supremely expensive; luckily it's still strongly floating away in our bedroom.
Watermelon and feta salad with pesto.
Love the birthday boy.

Because confession is good for the soul.
I confess...

The other day I came across a guest post from Elise at That's comma with a K. She was talking about her running in The Color Run on Motivate Me Monday (which is a weekly feature on For Love of a Cupcake). I thought "that race looks really cool" and decided to see if they have one near me. In fact they do in Charlotte, and now I really want to do this race.

Here's where the confession part comes in. I haven't gone running in a really long time. I checked my Daily Mile training, and my last actual logged run was in March 2011.  So I figure that I better treat myself like a newbie and start out with a brand new 5K training program. (If you want to be friends on daily mile, search for auzeybreezy).

I confess...

That everyone I know who has tried the Couch to 5K program seems to like it, so I downloaded that to give a shot. But what am I thinking? I'm going to start a running program at the end of June in South Carolina? The high tomorrow is supposed to be 96 degrees before the heat index. Oh and by the way, I know I'll be running in the afternoons because I am not a morning person. It's going to be a hot summer, and I'm probably going to need encouragement from y'all.

I confess...

I'd like to be a morning person. I used to be. Maybe I'll make it one of my July goals to start transitioning some of my runs to in the morning. I know it would make the Mister happier if I were a happier person in the morning. Remember the mantra in our house is "Give me coffee and no one gets hurt."

I confess...

A quick check-up on my June goals is not so great. I'm eating breakfast some days, but I've skipped mornings this week. And not eating out is really hard. I do better when I make a meal plan. And hey, it's okay. Most of my goals were things that I want to establish in my life, so I'll keep trying until I get there.

I confess...

I'm only working a half-day today because it's the Mister's birthday, and I have a cake to bake this afternoon. A Happy Birthday post is going up later today, but if you want to give him some birthday love, holler at him on twitter - @dshawman5.

Lucky Number 13
Virtual Coffee actually takes place on Tuesdays, but I decided I needed a virtual coffee date (and a real coffee date) today, so won't you join me for cup? Warning, I need to vent and complain a little bit....please bear with me.

If we were really meeting for coffee this morning...

I would tell you that I'm struggling in my jujitsu training....and it's not necessarily with the physical part of the training. I expect that to be challenging so I'm not worried about those days when that doesn't seem to click.

But it's the place interpersonal relationships that I'm having a hard time with. Specifically with the Mister. He's been training there for 11 years. Trust me, I don't expect my jujitsu to look anywhere near what his does, but oftentimes I wind up in a position where he's teaching. And I think I'm too sensitive here, but I feel like he holds me to higher standard than what he would another student at my skill level.

And he feels like I don't show him enough respect on the mat. I AM trying. But sometimes it's so hard when I need to ask questions to understand.

And on different jujitsu note, I am SICK to death of hearing "you really should try going to the ladies' class." I've spoken to my sensei. He teaches morning adult classes and evening adult classes. I can't help it if it's mostly ladies that go to the mornings and mostly guys that go to evenings. My schedule doesn't permit me to go to morning classes, but I'm sure starting to feel unwanted in the evening class because I'm frequently the only lady there.

Okay...enough complaining.

If we were really meeting for coffee this morning...

I would tell you how excited I am for the Mister's birthday dinner party tomorrow evening. It's not that his birthday is a special milestone...he's turning 37. It's just going to be a lot of fun to get together with a group of our friends and share some laughs and good food.

I do feel like I should have a little pile of presents for him, and I don't. His gift is a new grill, which we actually brought home over Memorial Day. He spoiled me so much when I turned 30 29 again last year that I wish that I could do a little more for him this year. I do have plans for a very yummy birthday cake.

If we were really meeting for coffee this morning...

I would share that I'm going to be a great-auntie this winter. We found out this week that our oldest niece and her husband are expecting. It was a bit of a surprise at first, but I'm really excited for them. The baby is due the week of Christmas, which is going to make this holiday season really special.

If we were really meeting for coffee this morning...

You would see how excited I am that it's officially summer. I love summertime. I love the warm evenings, the afternoon thunderstorms, the sunshine, swimming and going to the beach. I wish I were still in school so I could have a summer vacation, but since I'm a "grown-up" now, I'm just going to try to enjoy summer as much as possible around the work schedule.

So thanks for the impromptu virtual coffee date this morning. I hope y'all have a fabulous Thursday!

The Mister has been asking me when I would do another round-up post of links that he's sent me. (I think maybe he needs to blog himself.) And since his birthday is Friday, I thought I'd be a nice wife and humor him. Here's a few of the discoveries he's sent me lately:

1. Knowing how much I love coffee, he asked me what I thought about these pretty coffee presses from Erik Magnussen. I love the red one.

 2. This retro looking iPhone alarm clock is super-cool.

3. I can always tell when the Mister is hungry at work because he sends me links to recipes. Lately, he's sent me this recipe to Chocco Crossies.

4. And this link to recipes for vegetable chips. I'm going to try the kale chips this week.

5. And a recipe to cook bread in the crock pot, which is really cool.

Mamarazzi is back from her bloggy break! So be sure to head on over to link up with her for this week's Happy List.

1. I am HAPPY and enjoying celebrating the Mister's birthday week. We have lots of yummy meals planned all week before his dinner party at @116 State on Friday.

2. I am HAPPY to see gas at a somewhat "normal" price. I wonder how long it will stay below three dollars a gallon. (Oh yeah, and it's been a while since I espoused how much I LOVE my Prius!)
3. Brunch makes me HAPPY. The Mister took me out on Sunday (again at @116 State), and I had yummy three potato hashbrowns with eggs.

4. Meeting a friend for beer and cheese fries at the end of the a stressful week makes me beyond HAPPY. Sometimes you just need to indulge.

5. And finally this monkey makes me smile. Just because. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY.
