Over Memorial Day, we had a few friends over to grill burgers and have general picnic eats. I made this yummy potato salad, which I modified from The Lady & Sons Cookbook.

6 medium russet potatoes, diced
1/3 cup zesty Italian salad dressing
1 tsp sea salt
1 cup diced celery
1/3 cup sliced green onions with tops
4 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup low-fat sour cream
1 tsp dry mustard
1/2 tsp paprika

Boil potatoes with skins on for 15 to 20 minutes or until tender. Pour salad dressing over warm potatoes. Chill for about 2 hours. Mix remaining ingredients and fold into potato mixture.

I hope that everyone had a fabulous holiday weekend! I'm playing along with Mamarazzi this week in one of my favorite linky parties, Happy List. It's so important to focus on the good in our lives. Here's what's making me smile this week.

1. I am HAPPY to be feeling better. I woke up Saturday feeling normal and headed off to jujitsu with the Mister; we had such a good workout. I am so glad that I didn't spend my holiday weekend sick.

2. I am so HAPPY that we have a short work week this week. Even though it doesn't really change the amount of work I have to do, there is just something about a four-day work week that it awesome.

3. The Mister and I went this weekend to Home Depot and picked out a new grill for him as an early birthday gift. His birthday isn't for another few weeks, but it makes me so HAPPY to spoil him anyway. He's takes good care of me, and I like to do nice things for him, too.

4. We had a few friends over for burgers to test out said new grill. Feta burgers and fresh potato salad make me beyond HAPPY. It was also awesome to make a cucumber salad with veggies from our garden.

5. My pups make me HAPPY. They are such sweet, good girls.

6. It's definitely summertime. It was over 100 degrees on Sunday, and we're starting to see afternoon thunderstorms, which I love. I'm also a big fan of pool parties; there's nothing a quick swim in a refreshing pool to take the edge off the heat. I'm so HAPPY that we have so many friends and family members who are generous with access to their pools. Oh, and ice cream doesn't hurt, either.

Because confession is good for the soul.

I confess...

It's been a sick-y kind of day. I woke up feeling fine, but that quickly degenerated into some not so fun stomach issues. I think I scared the Mister a little because he said that I lost all my color and I was clammy and cold.

I confess...

I went to work for an hour anyway. Someone has to sign the checks. On the way, I stopped at Kroger for some orange Gatorade. That was an adventure...there are all kinds of odors in a grocery store. Just about all of them made me want to throw up. (And before my friends and family start going there, no, I'm not pregnant.)

I confess...

I've been pretty much living off Gatorade and Goldfish today. I thought I was feeling the time the Mister got home from work, so we went to dinner. Now my stomach is upset again so I've quarantined myself in the bed again.
I confess...

I'm ready to feel right again. We have jujitsu class in the morning, and I really want to go. We spent most of class on Wednesday working on rolls and falls. It was an incredible workout and just what I needed in my training.

I confess...

Sometimes I'm really amazed at the strides I've taken in training just since I started in September. I've never played sports or anything so it was huge just when I could do a somersault again. Now I'm happy to do an entire class on my forward roll because it means that I can take a throw better.

I confess...

That when I see the Mister train in class though, I feel like a baby jujitsika. Of course he's been training for 11 years longer than me so I'll probably always feel that way.

I'm linking up today for It's Okay Thursday.

Its Ok Thursdays

It's Okay...

...that I decided not wear proper shoes today.  In fact I wore slippers, but they make a really cute pair of flats.

...to decide I needed a Starbucks in the middle of the afternoon since I can't take shots in the office. It's been that kind of week.

...to be ridiculously sore after jujitsu last night but be dreading tomorrow because it's always the second day after a hard workout that really hurts.

...to be way too excited that my best friend bought her wedding dress this week. I'm not allowed to share pictures, but it's verrrrrry pretty. =)

...to be daydreaming about sushi for dinner but know that we'll be cooking dinner at home. We have too much yummy, fresh produce in the house to be eating out tonight.

Friday, May 18

Hi y'all!

Remember me? My name is Aubrey, and I used to blog somewhat regularly =)

I'm sorry. I didn't really mean to take a month-long blog break. In fact, I'd had big plans to do a whole series for our anniversary and to host a giveaway for my three year blogiversary, which was Tuesday.

So, yeah...clearly things didn't work out. I figure a good confessional will get me back up to speed.

Because confession is good for the soul

I confess...

I decided this morning, I could either get back to blogging today or it was time to close up shop. Since I'm nowhere near done blogging here at High-Heeled Love, I decided I better get back to it. Clearly I need to spend some time getting organized so I don't fall off the face of the earth again.

I confess...

I've run away to Charleston twice! The first weekend was with The Mister for our second wedding anniversary. And then the following weekend, I went down to visit a girlfriend. As a result of the trips, I've come to two conclusions:
  1. I'm way too old to not wear enough sun protection on the beach. It's been two weeks since I got burned, and I'm still peeling. I really should know better.
  2. I just can't go out like I used to, and you know you're growing up when you no longer have drunken frat boys trying to pick you up but get propositioned by an older married couple. (I said "no", btw) It was a random, wild weekend.
I confess...

I've been in discussion with a couple banks about doing a business loan to make a balloon payment on my contract to buy the agency from my partner. I don't talk about work much on my blog, but I've mentioned before that I'm buying it from him because he's retiring. I'm hoping to know by the end of the month whether I will get the loan now or if I have to wait a while longer.

I confess...

My MIL and I went to a charity silent auction a couple weeks ago and then decided to act like teenaged girls and take a bunch of "fashion" pictures afterward:

I confess...

The Mister and I are totally addicted to Mad Men. We've been watching it on demand and haven't seen this week's episode. I'm way excited to watch it and drool over the fashion and the cocktails.

I confess...

Last weekend, some friends of ours held a cocktail hour...several of the drinks were Mad Men-esque, though they don't watch the show. A Dark & Stormy is now my new favorite drink. Yum, yum, yum.

I confess...

I'm so proud of this guy. This week, he was promoted at out dojo to Sandan, which is third degree black belt. Yeah, my husband's a badass =)
If you want to congratulate him, tweet at him: @dshawman5
So, that's all I have time to share today, but I'm back now, so come by and say next week too! Want to play along? Click the button to link your Friday Confessional up with Mamarazzi.
