Wednesday, February 29

I've been tagged by two different bloggers this week to answer some questions, and since the last two days have been a blur of caffeine and getting ready for a big talk for work, I thought I'd be a good sport and play along.

Typecast
Natalie from Wibbly Wobbly Me wrote the first set of questions.
  1.  If you could be any animal in the whole world what would you be and why? An owl because then I could go to Hogwarts.
  2. Say you're a member of a opposite gender for the day- what would you do that you don't normally? Um...I don't know. The Mister is excited this week about getting mustache wax so maybe growing a mustache? But I think I'd need to at least a week for that.
  3. What is your biggest pet peeve? LOL! I can only pick one?!? Probably when people don't realize that turn signals come standard with every single vehicle on the market. Really, you don't have to get the next trim package, use your turn signals, people!
  4. Do you sleep with the bedroom door open or closed? In the winter, closed to keep the warm air in the room, and in the summer, open.
  5. If you could see just one musical artist in concert who would you pick? Wouldn't it be cool to see the Beatles? Too bad that's not an option anymore.
  6. You're going on a road trip- which celebrity would you take along for the ride? Bradley Cooper, but he has to act just like his character in The Hangover.
  7. Who is your hero? I have some pretty awesome aunts....
  8. What is the most daring or dangerous thing you’ve ever done? I went skydiving last summer.
  9. Which one of the Seven Dwarves from Snow White would you be? (Happy, Dopey, Sleepy, Doc, Grumpy, Bashful and Sneezy to refresh your memories!) Doc for sure. I like to be the boss.
  10. Where is the most beautiful place you've ever been? My aunt's backyard in Washington. She lives in the middle of the mountains, and I've never seen so many stars as night. It's just amazing.
  11.  If you had to paint the front of your house a primary color, which one would you choose? Blue, and I'd leave my red front door and green awnings just to make the neighbors talk. =)

The second set of questions is from Essentially Alison.
  1. What would I find in your refrigerator right now? Beer, juice, tea, lunchmeat and lots of cheese.
  2. If you won $20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money? Pay off all our debt, give a big donation to the church, take a helluva trip and then hire a financial planner. (Quick industry, statistics show that most people blow a sum of money when they win/inherit in  in about three years because they don't know how to handle money like that.)
  3. What makes you angry? A lot of things, but I'm happy right now.
  4. If you were written about in the newspaper, on the front page, what would the headline say? I'm feeling so creative today so I don't have an exact headline, but it would be awesome if the headline touted my accomplishments as a young businesswoman. I was recently nominated for our city's top 20 under 40, so I got close to a newspaper story.
  5. If you HAD to change your name, what would you change it to? Ava Elizabeth, but I actually really like name. It's unique and carries on a family tradition.
  6. If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional... with whom would it be? One of my brother and SIL's neighbors so I could spend some time with my family on the West Coast. Christmas is too far away.
  7. If aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what would you want? To spend a week with my mom.
  8. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, whom would you like to see play the lead role as you? Natalie Portman. She's beautiful, quirky and brilliant.
  9. If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time? Travel with my husband a lot.
  10. What is your favorite color? Gunmetal silver
  11. What's the most important part of the sandwich? The cheese, of course.
The next part of the tag is that I'm supposed to write 11 questions and tag 11 blogs, but I have to get back to work. So I'm going to tag whoever wants to play along and say answer as many of Alison & Natalie's questions as you like. Also, be sure to head on over to leave them some blog love!

Happy Wednesday, loves!

No matter how long it's been since our weddings, we all like to share the details that made our day special to us. So when I came across this fun linky party  hosted by The Magnolia Pair, I decided to jump on board and share my cake with you. (Thanks for the heads up, Ashley!)

We elected to have cupcakes at our wedding rather than a traditional cake. My good friend Erin made them for us as our wedding gift. We  chose vanilla, orange, lemon and key lime flavors. They were so yummy!
The Mister's aunt also had a good friend who does cakes, too. So she had brought us a cake as a surprise for our rehearsal dinner. Except that we didn't have a formal rehearsal dinner so we put that on the cake table on our special day to be enjoyed. This is the cakes we cut for photos and saved the top for our first anniversary.

Some of my favorite memories of the day were from the cake cutting and champagne toasts.

Thanks for letting me share our cake with you. Be sure to head over to The Magnolia Pair to check out everyone's cakes.

Because confession is good for the soul.

I confess....

“The time to relax is when you don't have time for it.” ― Sydney J. Harris

This quote is the story of my life these days. I am so ready for things to slow down just a little bit so that I can breathe again. The Mister has been promising me a massage for months now. I'm hoping to cash in this weekend.

I confess...

I almost hit a cat last night. There was a black cat sitting in the middle of the road at dusk when I was droving home from work. How would that be for bad luck? Luckily, I now know that my brakes work extremely well.

I confess...

It felt so good to get back into the dojo for jujitsu this week. I had missed the last two weeks and had been craving a good workout. I have to say though, when grappling, I'm not a big fan of being tossed about like a rag doll. I'm going to have to work on that. Tonight one of my instructors will be visiting from Virginia. Usually we only get to see him at convention in the fall. So excited to train with him this weekend.

I confess...

This photo makes me want to adopt another puppy. How can that not make you smile?
I confess...

I'm loving the weather this week. We opened the windows last night in the house because it's so warm and pretty outside. However, it's humid and stormy today, so I'd rather be at home than at work.

I confess...

I stopped by three different store last weekend looking for Hershey's Kisses Special Dark last week to send in the Favorite Things swap. At first, I was worried that Hershey had discontinued the variety (that would make me cry, both for my swap partner and me), but since they are still listed on the web site, I'll keep looking. I confess that I really like to the seasonally packaged Kisses to keep in the candy jar. I love the pretty colors.

I confess...

I haven't even introduced you to my swap partner. I'm such a slacker. I'm sending my goodies to Ashley at Life After the Aisle. Go see her and say hi! I think she's pretty fabulous.

The Mister frequently sends me links throughout the work day of things he wants me to check out or thinks I would enjoy. I thought it would be fun today to share some of links he's sent me recently.

1. Yummy and interesting chili recipes from Food 52
2.A DIY charging station made from a vintage suitcase from Design Sponge

3. A different take on kitchen drawer organization
4. An absolutely adorable smoke detector. We're waiting on the Chick-a-Dee to come to the US.
5. Lead in lipsticks. I now know which brand I won't be buying anymore.

Wednesdays are the longest day of the week for me. They start at 5:30 a.m (well before the Mister even gets out of bed)., and I typically don't finish up for the day until about 9:30 in the evening. This is the key to ingredient to a successful day around here:

Monday, February 20

It's been nearly two weeks since my last post. I wish I had a great reason for that, but mostly I've been busy with work and haven't been up to being creative. I also had a bit of stomach bug last week, which was just peachy. I'm still pretty worn out so this post will pretty much be a mind-dump. Sorry =)

I guess I'll start trying to catch y'all up by telling you that I went to visit my buddy Rob this weekend. We wound up at the shooting range with some of his friends on Saturday afternoon. I haven't fired a gun since I did an article on the JROTC in high school, but I wound up enjoying the afternoon quite a bit.

Rob thought it would be hilarious to get me to wear the belt of ammo and pose for a picture. I promised him I'd share it on my blog. The other two are photos that he took while I was actually shooting, not posed.

After the shooting range, we wound up hanging out his friend's house. I made the mistake of bragging on how well my Apple laptop works (it's about 10 years old), and when I got home the battery was dead. Luckily, the Mister was able to contact the vendor we bought the last battery from, and they are providing a replacement. Also, the Mister is willing to share and let me use his laptop until the new battery comes.

I am officially declaring roasted Brussels sprouts as my favorite snack these days. I have a whole pan in the oven right now, and they should come out right before my television shows start.

Yeah, about the television shows. I stayed up after the Super Bowl a couple weeks ago to watch The Voice and Smash. I am now officially hooked. I never got into American Idol, but The Voice has been awesome so far. Blake Shelton is such a cutie, and I cannot wait to see what happens this week on Smash. Who doesn't love a musical?
Finally, this song has been on repeat on my iPhone for the last month or so. I was so excited to hear it on last week's episode of The Vampire Diaries.

I'm feeling a little snarky and sarcastic this morning, so I think I'm going to keep my Happy List in a visual format. I'm daydreaming of summer. I hope everyone has a fabulous Tuesday!
