This is the last week that Art @ Home is hosting the Happy List linky party. Be sure to join up and thank her for doing such a great job with this party while Mamarazzi was on bloggy break.

Spending a weekend in Asheville with the Mister makes me HAPPY. We had a fantastic time at Moogfest and got to see lots of great music:
Explosions in the Sky
We also saw Black Moth Super Rainbow, Thomas Dolby and Orbital, but I don't have decent pictures to share.

It made my heart HAPPY to see the Mister relaxing and dancing. With all the stress and preparation for his black belt exam this week, he really needed to blow of some steam.
Getting his dance on during Orbital
On Saturday, we had the BEST Indian food at Mela. I didn't take pictures because I was too busy stuffing my face, but my belly was so HAPPY afterward. I want to go back to Asheville tomorrow just to eat there again.

Spending time with friends makes me HAPPY. Some old friends of the Mister's put us up for the weekend. He worked with the husband at Yellowstone National Park back in the 90s. It was really cool to get to know them better and play with their adorable children.

Other things that made me HAPPY this week:
Yummy sushi in celebration of my closing last week.
Herbal tea in the evening with my husband.

Okay, I'm going there again. I think this is the third or fourth time that I've featured Taylor Swift on my Musical Monday post, but I really like her. And her new album Red came out last week; it's been on repeat in the car.

And this video is set in it's a shoe-in.

Sunday, October 28

Hi everyone! I hope that you're having a wonderful weekend. The Mister and I are still enjoying all the goodness of Asheville and Moogfest and seeing good friends, but I still wanted to share my favorite finds this week.

  1. Have you ever heard of a wife-carrying contest? It looks like a lot of fun, but I'm not so sure I'd want to ride upside down on the Mister's back, especially through the mud pit.
  2. Fit Bottomed Girls is one of my favorite healthy living blogs, and their post this week about the breaking free from the comparison trap were words I needed to hear. I can remember that I used to be really happy with my appearance, and that hasn't felt that way in a while. It's time to change that.
  3. It's always a good thing to have a list of blog ideas to jog us for when we get stuck. Leslie from by the Porchlight thought the same thing and hosted a linky party of nothing but blog ideas. Goodbye, writer's block.
  4. Who knew that Belle from Beauty and Beast and I had the same taste in books? Check out this fun graphic on Love, The Skinnys.
  5. And for the crafty ones, check out this list ways to upcycle old sweaters by Amy of Rainy Saturday.

If you've found something here that you enjoy or if you find something that you think I would like, please let me know. Thanks and have a happy Sunday!

Good morning lovelies!

I'm sorry that Shoe Lust Saturday is starting a little late this week. Getting ready for that closing meant I didn't have as much time to prep things here on the blog this week. The Mister and I are happily enjoying a beautiful morning in the mountains while we're attending Moogfest this weekend.

This week, I wanted to share some of my favorite shoe culture finds...all those cute little signs and sayings that go along with being a shoe lover.

Friday, October 26

Mamarazzi is taking a bloggy break this month, so Friday Confessional will be hanging out here this month. This is the last Friday that the Confessional will be hosted here, so link up and share all your dirty little secrets!

I confess...

I have big news to share this week! I've been hinting about this almost all year. I expected to announce this months ago, but the entire process seemed to get extraordinarily complicated and took about twice as long as expected. I don't talk very much about work on the blog. Because I'm in insurance sales, it's not really appropriate  nor do I typically have good stories. But today, I'm going to talk about work a little bit.

I confess...

Some of you may know that last year, I bought the agency that I've worked at for years. My former employer was retiring and gave me the option to buy him out. He even self-financed the loan so that I could establish equity in the company, but a stipulation of our contract was that I make a balloon payment to him by the end of the year.

I confess...

I've been working on getting the loan for the balloon payment most of the year. For reasons I won't get into, I had to do so by going through the Small Business Association. And yesterday, after six months of working through the process, the Mister and I closed the loan, and the payment check was issued! We are celebrating this weekend!

I confess...

That even though I've actually owned the agency for 22 months, this makes things feel really official.

I confess...

I have also signed a lease for new office space that is about two minutes from my house; right now my office is about half hour away from I will be busy this month getting my agency packed up and ready to move at the end of November.

I confess...

Somewhere in the last two years, I've turned into a really grown-up. When did that happen? But hey, I'm a grown-up that owns her business!

Want to play along? Grab the button and link your Friday Confessional post up below. Please be sure that your link goes to the actual Friday Confessional post (not your general blog url), and that you include the linky button. Be sure to comment after linking.

I know this Miranda Lamber song isn't necessarily about driving fast, but since I just got my new car.... =)

By the way, this is my favorite Miranda Lambert song ever:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This is no surprise to most of us in the blogging world. After all most of us are women. So we're aware of the disease. We do our self-exams and some of us get mammograms.

Many of us have been involved in some sort of campaign to raise awareness or participated in an event to fundraise toward treating and curing the disease.

And we all know someone who has been touched by breast cancer.

If you've been reading my blog a while, you know this isn't the first time I've written about supporting this particular cause. After all, I did meet up with Janna and Amy last year for the 3 Day in Washington DC.

What I haven't shared is that in the last twelve months two women that I've known personally have passed away as a result of breast cancer that spread. They fought the disease, but unfortunately, they lost.

So this year, I've been trying to educate myself more. Example, last week I learned from the manager of a local imaging facility that they have recently found and diagnosed a lump that a woman found in her armpit. I didn't know that there could be breast tissue there. Nor had I ever given much thought to the idea of men getting breast cancer.

I also try to purchase items that give proceeds back to breast cancer research, and here's where the giveaway comes in. I recently purchased one of these beautiful iPhone cases from uncommon, and thought, "This would make a really good giveway item."

So, that's what I'm going to do. I'm offering up a Pinktober goodie box that includes your choice of the uncommon Protect with Pink iPhone 4/4S cases (other phones aren't available for these designs, sorry.), Stila Positively Pink lipgloss/blush set and other pink goodies which support breast cancer research that I'll be purchasing throughout the week.
Stila Positively Pink
UPDATE: If I can find them this weekend, I'll be adding a bottle from the Essie Raise Awareness collection.

The giveaway will run one week; I'll announce the winner next Monday on the blog. You can enter below. This giveaway is open to U.S. Residents only.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Disclaimer: I was not sponsored or compensated in any for this giveaway; there is no business relationship between this blog and uncommon, Stila or any breast cancer research foundation. I just support the cause. All products were purchased personally.

Sunday, October 21

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. It's just about time to get back into gear for Monday, but for now, have a cup of coffee or tea and spend a few minutes checking out my favorite reads this week.

1. My SIL Mireya completed her first half-marathon! Check out her race recap. She makes me want to run a half, but for now, I'll just stick with getting through the Color Run next month.

2. I've seen some fantastic ways to ask your friends to be a bridesmaid, but I love how Blessed Mama from Expecting a Blessing adapted one of these ideas as invitations to prospective godparents, and isn't the little boy their adopting just the cutest?

3. Bon from Life of Bon always makes me laugh, but I especially love her husband's plan to squelch her baby fever. Clever, clever man.

4. One of the prizes in the birthday month giveaway that I won was a lace headband from Sue at Chevron & Lace. I really appreciated that she also included a little note to let me know that there was a tutorial on her blog in case I wanted to make myself another. How thoughtful!

5. I always love to see Maxabella's lovely party ideas for her children. She can do a themed party like nobody's business. I adored these mousy little slumber party invitations for her daughter's 7th birthday party. There's a downloadable pdf as well.

If you've found something here that you enjoy or if you find something that you think I would like, please let me know. Thanks and have a happy Sunday!

Saturday, October 20

Good morning lovelies!

I hope everyone is well-caffienated and ready to discuss one of my great! If you've been reading for a while, you've probably my Shoe Lust Saturdays posted sporadically over the last year or so.

Last weekend, my Mister if he'd design a button for the posts so I could make it a weekly series and linky party. Well, I'm a lucky girl because he's finally delivered. Now I have a shiny new button, and we can start linking up.

So the format for this party is going to be pretty simple. Just a couple of housekeeping items and then we can all share our thoughts on fabulous footwear. Y'all please don't make me delete your links.
  1. Your post must contain the Shoe Lust Button.
  2. Your link must go to your Shoe Lust post, not your general blog url.
  3. Your Shoe Lust post must be about shoes in some format or fashion. Share what you're wearing or lusting or pinning.
Okay, let's get started. This week, I've been all over some lace heels. These are my favorite babies so far.
