This quote was in my email this morning, and it was too appropriate not to include with my Happy List. When I was younger, The Diary of Anne Frank was one of my favorite books; it's probably time for a re-read just because it's been a long time.

1. Saturday morning, the Mister and I spent some time streaming of the Olympic Judo matches. It was a lot of fun, and it made me HAPPY that because of my jujitsu training, I was able to appreciate a lot of the technique in the matches.

2. Tomorrow is August! I'm so ready to leave July behind....and my BIRTHDAY is two weeks from today. Let the birthday month commence!
Source: weheartit
3. Tomato sandwiches from our garden really are the highlight of the day. I'm going to be so sad when we stop getting tomatoes; we're down to one plant now. However, that one plant is the persimmon, which is my FAVORITE! And it's just starting to produce.
 4. I got a super fun "Aubrey Box" last week from my swap partner Megan in the Mascara and Lipgloss Swap last week. The link up is next week, so I'll show you all my goodies then, but for now THANK YOU, Megan.
Follow Megan on twitter.
5. Catching RAINBOWS outside after the afternoon storms. Last week, there was a double rainbow when we stepped out for diner. I might complain out the heat of SC summers, but this really is treat.

Remember when I wrote about the Coast to Coast blogmap? Well, yesterday, it connected me with a fun blogger group for those of us from South Carolina.

Danielle at Secrets of a Sweet Southern Girl reached out to invite me to join the Palmetto State Bloggers.

And I'm spreading the word! If you're a blogger in SC and interested in joining, click the button above to get details and be sure to join the FB Group.

There's a blogger meet-up coming in September that involves wine and painting in Columbia so be sure to join in the fun!

Its Ok Thursdays
This week makes a year of this fun linky party; if you haven't played along before, today is a good time to join in. Plus, there's a giveaway!

It's okay... just be ready for July to be over. It really hasn't been that great a month, and my birthday is next month. That's much more excited. have emailed my husband a *hint, hint* link to the Erin Condren life planner I want for my birthday. The Mister will be the first to admit that he'd rather I just tell him what I want.

...that after jujitsu last night, we headed to waffle house for dinner. Sometimes cooking is just not in the cards. wear flip flops to work when I don't have to see clients. Sometimes, I just don't want to put real shoes on. be daydreaming of the ice cream social we're attending this evening even though it's not even 10 in the morning yet. be a little too excited about the leftovers I have for lunch today. If that steak from Girabaldi Cafe is half as good as it was at dinner the other day, I'm in for a treat. feel rather uninspired on the blog front this morning.

Wednesday, July 25

After craving homemade mac & cheese almost all of last week, I adapted this Southern Living recipe on Sunday for a yummy dinner.
  • 1/2 (16-oz.) package cellentani pasta
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 (10-oz.) can diced tomatoes and green chiles
  • 1 (8-oz.) package pasteurized prepared cheese product, cubed
  • 3 cups chopped cooked chicken
  • 1 (10 3/4-oz.) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) shredded Cheddar cheese
1. Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare pasta according to package directions.
2. Meanwhile, melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add onion and bell pepper, and sauté 5 minutes or until tender. Stir in tomatoes and green chiles and prepared cheese product; cook, stirring constantly, 2 minutes or until cheese melts. Stir in chicken, next 4 ingredients, and hot cooked pasta until blended. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 10-inch cast-iron skillet or 11- x 7-inch baking dish; sprinkle with shredded Cheddar cheese.
3. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly.
My changes: I used 8 ounces of Monterrey jack cheese for the "cheese product" (yuck) and Perdue's frozen roasted chicken. In the interest of minimizing dishes to do, I did not spoon everything into a different baking dish; instead I baked everything covered in my Dutch oven.

1. It was so nice to pull up to the house yesterday and find that one of our neighbors had done us a favor and mowed our front yard. We don't know who it was, but it was such a thoughtful gesture.

2. I have an appointment to get my hair trimmed tomorrow, and I am so looking forward to it. I've been trying to grow it out the last couple months, but it's in the awkward driving-me-crazy-in-this-heat phase. Having a little shape will probably make it behave better.

3. Seeing our niece's cute little baby belly makes me smile. She's going to be an amazing mother, and we're so excited for her.

4. Hershey's Kisses Special Dark. Enough said.

5. Popping a fun swap package in the mail makes me happy. I'm a bad blogger and didn't introduce my partner for the Mascara and Lipgloss Swap; meet Megan from MADNESS. She lives right down the way in Athens, Georgia and looks like she has a lot of fun with her husband. She doesn't have a button for her blog yet, so I'm stealing borrowing this fun pic from her blog.
Be sure to swing by Megan's blog and say hi!

Last weekend, I surprised the Mister and treated us both to pedicures. I love all the neon I'm seeing this summer and opted to have my toes painted with China Glaze's "In the Lime Light."

Personally I find that China Glaze's polishes are little to thin for my nails, but they do well for a pedicure. Unfortunately, I couldn't convince the Mister to pick a color for his toenails. =p

On a side note, I saw on their blog this morning that Julep Maven's August boxes are all metallic and chromes! My normal style is Boho Glam, but when I saw the Bombshell box, I had immediately changed my style for the month.
Gunmetal silver is my favorite color.
I've talked about Julep Maven before; it's monthly subscription that gets you a box of a least two new polish colors and other great nail/beauty products. If you aren't a member yet, this will be a great month to try it out; my referral link* is You can get your first month for only penny by using the promo code PENNY.

*In the interest of full disclosure, Julep awards a free month's for every two new members from my referral link.

Its Ok Thursdays

It's Okay... have gotten a little weepy after a biopsy yesterday. That shizz hurts, and I'm worried about the possible results even though everything this will probably be okay. call you best friend on the way home from the doctor's office to whine about it, and then stop by Starbucks for a pick-me-up. have sushi for lunch more than one day in a row, even if it's only grocery store sushi. be re-watching all of Grey's Anatomy on dvd after work at home and to cry over certain episodes no matter how many times I've seen them. be dying to buy some new workout clothes online, but to wait and use them as a reward for meeting certain goals. really need to start that running program again and do it. I live in SC; summer heat is not a surprise, and it can't be an excuse anymore. want to sneak out of work early for a haircut and happy hour, but to stay because I know I have a meeting later anyway. be a little irritated that I've been so busy there hasn't been much time to think about content for blog posts. Thank goodness for linky parties. be super-excited about meeting up with a friend we haven't seen in FOREVER for dinner tomorrow after jujitsu.

Since it's summertime, I've been daydreaming of roadtrips...and my favorite soundtrack for the is The Road Mix from One Tree Hill Season 3. This Gym Class Heroes cover of "Good Vibrations" (originally sung by the Beach Boys) is too fun not to make you smile.

And since I miss One Tree Hill so much, here's a youtube video of the song to some great clips from the earlier seasons of the show.

Tell me, what are your go-to road songs?

Because confession is good for the soul
I confess...

I really want to play hooky at work today. I need a long vacation, and it's just not going to happen. We have a week off planned over the holidays but that's months away, and I'm going to melt here in South Carolina before then.

I confess...

This morning I had a coffee date with the Mister at his favorite coffee shop. They do pour over coffee, which takes a little bit of time to brew....and this morning they were busy. So by the time that our coffee was ready, the Mister had to run off to work.
source: weheartit
That's okay though because I struck up a conversation with the gentleman sitting on the other side of me, who happens to be a professor at the university. And he thought that I was still in college; I could have kissed the man. I confess being mistaken for nearly 10 years younger than what I am was really what I needed to hear this morning. I just made my day!

I confess...

That my bestest Kate called me this week to hand out some bridesmaid duties. Since she lives in California and can't be here for all the planning, she's sending me and the Mister to do some cake tasting this weekend. Gosh, it's hard job being the maid of honor. =D
source: weheartit
It's also time for bridesmaid dress shopping, but that's not nearly as fun. I confess there's something about trying on a ton of dresses and taking photos to be sent back to the bride that brings out all kinds of body insecurities.

I confess...

I feel like I've been rocking and rolling in jujitsu lately, but I haven't been with my notebook. Part of the requirements to being promoted is keeping a notebook, which is a manual of the techniques for should evolve over time with training. I have about five techniques that I need to write out before I can ask to be examined for blue belt. Want to know how many I had a month ago...about five. Yeah, it's time to get it done.

I confess...

I just mentally keep coming back to wanting to go on vacation. Wouldn't it be nice to be laying on a beach in the tropics right now?

I don't have a lot of time today, so I'm going to keep my Happy List pretty simple in pictures. I hope you are all having a fabulous week.
Cherry tomatoes on a volunteer plant. Finally getting a post on the Mister's garden blog.
Some amazing views as storms roll through town.
Finding my pin on the Coast to Coast Blogging map
Lots of fresh produce in our Brown Box Veggies
Amazingly fresh authentic tacos from a local food truck. I didn't even mind the cilantro

Monday, July 9

A couple weekends ago, the Mister and I were lounging on a Saturday afternoon and watching tv. This rarely happens; he's always working in the yard. Anyway, on this particular Saturday, the heat index was over I told him working outside was out of the question.

We were channel flipping and happened to come across some special on Bell Biv Devoe, and the Mister got excited because it took him back to his childhood (he's older than me, remember?); I don't remember a lot of BBD, but how could I forget "Poison"?

Because confession is good for the soul.

I confess...

I loved having Wednesday off this week; it's made the whole week seem like a holiday. Unfortunately, that means I've had about zero productivity at work, and that just doesn't work. Looks like I'm going to hitting the ground running next week to get caught up.

I confess...

We spent the whole afternoon on Wednesday with my parents. We swam. We played dice. We cooked out and ate too much food. Then when the Mister and I got home to Columbia, we moseyed on over to another pool party and swam and ate some more. Sometimes you just gotta indulge.

I confess...

A couple weeks ago, I saw Miss Chelsea's Stars & Bars cut-offs, and I just had to have a pair for myself. So Wednesday morning, that's what I did. And I totally enjoyed rocking the uber-patriotic look all afternoon.

I confess...

I really can't wait for the work day to be over today. The ladies and I have a Mucho Margarita date tonight. I'm really looking forward to sharing a tower of margaritas and some chips & queso. I have already re-scheduled that movie date to see Magic Mike.

Happy Friday, Friends!

Tuesday, July 3

1. This week, I am so HAPPY that we have a little holiday intermission. It will be nice to sleep in tomorrow on what would be a workday and take the day to focus on some leisure activities.

2. It makes me smile to have finally painted my nails. The Mister even helped by applying the glitter. Getting a fun box of nail polish monthly from Julep Maven makes me HAPPY. Julep Maven is a fun monthly subscription brand new polish colors and fun beauty products. (If you want to join the fun, click the link and use the code MAVENINTRO to get your first month for a penny.)

This month, they sent a bonus glitter polish call America in honor of the holiday. The other colors I'm wearing are Molly (red) by Julep and Mesmerize (blue) by Essie.

3. I am also pretty darn HAPPY that we have family and friends with pools and thankful that they are generous! I don't know how we would have survived otherwise these past few days.
Sunday the heat index was over 120, and the Mister and I stayed right here.
4. Last week the Mister shaved his mustache off. Seeing him clean-shaven for the first time since September is a HAPPY sight.
5. Sushi, coffee, fresh watermelon. All on my list for a HAPPY belly; not all at once, though.
This one is growing in our garden. Not quite ready to pick, but soon. Very soon.

6. My girlfriend had to cancel on my for Magic Mike on Saturday (boo!), so the Mister took me to see Disney's Brave in 3D instead. It's been quite a while since I laughed that hard. I will so be purchasing when it releases on DVD.
