It's been nearly another week since I've blogged, and I don't know what to say other than that I've been busy. Work has to come before blogging. So sorry, ladies. And of course busy with work means that there aren't a lot of interesting things to share.

But it's been so long since I've linked up with Mamarazzi and visited her other participants. So today I'm going to take a few minutes to share my Happy List. Besides, it's a great way to start the week.

1. I'm happy that we did not have to deal with any bad weather because of Hurricane Irene. Several of my family members from around the country called to see that we would be safe. Not only were we just fine in our corner of South Carolina, but the Mister and I didn't even get any rain.
One of my neighbor's tagged me on FB with these swim shoes for Irene. It always makes me smile when a somebody tells me that a pair of heels made them think of me.

2. The Mister heard me mention last weekend I wanted to replace my Adidas shelltoe sneakers, and on Thursday a package arrived for me with these babies. It's not very often that the Mister encourages my shoe habit, but I sure do appreciate when he does.
3. The only thing the Mister didn't realize was that had he ordered them through my Ebates account, we would have earned cash back. I love Ebates. I ordered a new Gamecock sweatshirt and a birthday gift for a friend last week. This morning, I got an email telling me how much cash the purchases earned.

4. Football starts this weekend. I am so excited. And the weather is supposed to cool off this weekend so maybe I'll make a pot of chili for the first game. There is nothing that screams fall to me like chili, good beer and Gamecocks football.

5. In addition to the start of college football, we have a long weekend. I spent almost all day Sunday in the office catching up on paperwork so that I could be sure I don't have to work over Labor Day. We want to take a daytrip. Maybe to Asheville?

And just for fun, a friend just tagged us on FB. This photo of me and the Mister is nearly five years ago.We look so young and in love!

Happy Monday!

If we were really meeting for coffee today...

I would tell you that the Ladies Adventure Club has booked our whitewater rafting reservations for next month. We'll be camping and then rafting down the Ocoee River. I've been to this river several times in the last few years, and I'm really excited about heading out with the ladies.

Also, only 29 more days until D.C.! I just cannot wait for this trip and to meet Miss Janna and Miss Amy. Not only are they raising money for a great cause (see posts HERE and HERE), but we're going to paint the town PINK. I aslo plan to connect with a dear friend from high school who moved to that area of the country last year. (P.S. Help them meet their fundraising goals by donating at their team page: Jules' Warriors.)

Wow, it looks like September is going to be my travel month.

If we were really meeting for coffee today...

I would tell you that I started reading The Help last week. I know, I know. I'm the last person in the blogiverse who hasn't read the book yet. I held off on purchasing it because Janna told me she was going to loan it to me, and it came in my Happy Birthday package last week.
Speaking of that package, look at the other goodies she sent me. Thank you, Janna!

If we were really meeting for coffee today...

I'd ask you for some music recommendations. I also received an iTunes gift card for the birthday, and I really don't have any idea what I'd like to purchase with it. Has anyone come across some fabulous new music lately or want to suggest any oldies-but-goodies that maybe aren't in my music collection already?

If we were really meeting for coffee today...

I would have to excitedly tell you that South Carolina's football kickoff is in just 12 days! We'll be starting the season ranked #12! I [heart] my Gamecocks!

So, I think that's all I have to share this week. Thanks for stopping by for coffee. What's going on in your corner of the world?

Today, I have a dear friend writing a guest post. Remember how I told you about my upcoming trip to Washington DC? Janna and Amy have five weeks left to meet their fundraising goals before they participate in the Susan G. Komen Foundation's 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk next month.

My name is Janna and I am participating in my 5th Breast Cancer 3-Day in Washington D.C. in 39 days.

When I sit and think about why I walk…I think about this lady.
This is my friend Dawn.  I have know Dawn for nearly 10 years now…all by chance.  She worked at the corporate office for a company I worked for that was located in Illinois. (I am in Texas)  We created a bond so strong that neither distance nor changes in jobs could break up our friendship.
Dawn is a cancer survivor.  A Breast Cancer Survivor.
So is her sister.
And now her mom Pat started her fight on August 15, 2011
“My mom got through Lymph Node surgery today with 4-5 lymph nodes taken out.  It will be Thursday before she gets results.  She will be undergoing Radiation and the rest of the treatment will depend if it has spread into the Lymph Nodes.”
This family has seen their fair share.  MANY families have seen their fare share.
Breast Cancer knows no bounds…
I walk for Dawn, her sister AND her mother Pat,  Pam (who beat breast cancer and is now fighting a new cancer battle) Elizabeth, LeeAllan, Louise-Paula, Arthanise (who lost her battle this year), Nancy, Dianne, Mary Ellen, Laurie, Delia's Mom, for my new friend Nancy (who was just recently diagnosed) and for any woman who has ever had to or ever will have to go through this horrible disease.
I also walk for my nieces…Sarah, Ashley, Megan & Mallory.  I walk for Amy’s daughter Jules, so that they may never have to deal with this disease.
I walk for a cure.  I walk for those who can’t.  I walk for those who lost their battles.  I walk for YOU.
In order to walk I must raise $2300.  I have booked my flight and my hotel room.  I am COMMITED to walk for a cure.
Can you help me with my fundraising goal?

Each week, Mamarazzi gathers up all that makes her happy and then invites us to do the same. This week, her fabulous husband Big Daddy is guest posting and sharing his Happy List. Won't you play along?

1. At the tippy toppy of my Happy List this week is that today we're having a my 29th (again) 30th birthday party. We're meeting about a dozen friends at @116 Espresso and Wine Bar for a great dinner, and there are rumors that the Mister is going to be baking this pineapple angel food cake.

2. Birthdays always mean plenty of good mail. I love, LOVE getting cards, and I'm feeling awfully loved this year. Thanks, you guys!
3. The Mister has led the week up with pre-Birthday cards and chocolates. He's been away all morning "running errands." I wonder what that man has up his sleeve.

4. A mini shopping spree at Loft. I can burn a gift card in a ridiculously short amount of time, especially when I have a 20% off coupon on top of that. This cute skirt now lives in my closet, and this jacket is on the short list to come home soon.

5. I am loving our new roof. I know I posted pictures the other day, but it's hard to understand how much better it looks without a good before and after.
This is the house when we bought it in 2007.
The roof today, and the pups say hello.

Thursday, August 11

I'm a firm believer in stretching a birthday celebration out over the course of the week. And the way I see it, my birthday week celebration officially started yesterday afternoon....with the new roof.

Hey, I don't care if it's because of the hail storm last month. If the new roof is installed the week of my birthday, I count it as a birthday gift to me.

So, this is what my insurance agent gave me. She also mails me a card with a coupon for a free ice cream cone at Sonic each year.

My MIL left this morning for a long weekend in California, so last night we had dinner with her, and she had my birthday gifts for me to open early. She saw these re-usable shopping bags and decided they make the perfect wrapping for my birthday.

These babies from Shoe Dazzle should be arriving today!

And this morning, I may or may not have treated myself by ordering this cute brush set from Sephora. (I always go through Ebates and earn 8% cash back.)
Bare Escentuals Jet Set Mini Brush Collection

So there you have it -- the celebration has begun. Birthday cupcakes for everyone!

If we were really meeting for coffee...

I would have to say that it's too late in the evening for caffeine, and instead I'm drinking herbal tea. I always use the same mug for tea in the evening. It's a pink Texas mug that Amy sent me. (Sorry, Janna.) It's the perfect size for a good cup of hot tea, and I like that it's the same shade of pink as the Tazo Rest wrapper.
I may be drinking tea right now, but I did stop for a coffee break this afternoon. I had a free drink at Starbucks for my birthday. Java chip frappuccino. Yum!

If were were really meeting for coffee...

I would tell you the reason I'm blogging so late is because we're having our roof replaced tomorrow. We had a hail storm this summer that resulted in a leak in our bathroom, and the end result is a new roof. (Thank you, Nationwide.)

While the work is being done, we're also paying the contractor to knock a now-defunct chimney down below the roof line and install a sun tube into our bedroom. This has meant that the evening has consisted of meeting the Mister at Home Depot to buy the sun tube and moving everything from one side to the other side of the attic.

As we speak, the Mister is in the attic drilling a hole where we want the tube installed. So even though I'd like to go to  bed, there's no point while I can hear him banging around up there.

If we were really meeting for coffee...

I'd say how much I love 90s music. There's nothing like music from when I was in high school to cheer me up. It takes you back to a time of life when things were much simpler. My go-to cd? Dizzy up the Girl by the Goo Goo Dolls. "Iris" remains my all-time favorite song.

If we were really meeting for coffee...

I'd ask you to continue praying for Jodi. She had her stem cell transplant yesterday and is doing really well. The hospital she's at calls transplant day her "Re-Birthday." Remember that I asked everyone to mail her Re-Birthday cards? Her sister Jami reported on her blog today that Jodi has received about 15 cards this week.

That. Is. Awesome.

Keep mailing the cards to let Jodi know that we're thinking of her. You can get a mailing address from her CaringBridge site or email me. Jodi has 100 days before she comes home to South Carolina; let's make sure she knows we're thinking of her.

I think that just about wraps it up for today. Thanks so much for meeting me for coffee. Please tell me how your week is going so far.

Because confession is good for the soul.

I confess...

I meant to blog every day this week and got distracted throughout the day. There are 3-4 half-written posts hanging out in my drafts that I really need to finish up. But you know, I'd much rather be enjoying real life so that's the way it goes.

I confess...

Wednesday I stopped by the Mister's dojo to say hi and to talk to his sensei. I  asked the Mister to get me a gi for my birthday. It's the first baby step to me beginning jujitsu training with him. Except that I won't really be training with him because he's been doing it for 10 years. So I'll be a white belt, and he's working toward his third degree black belt. We'll be on the same mat, but we won't exactly be working on the same techniques.
Last weekend the Mister helped a friend film her senior thesis on jujitsu. All three "actors" are at least black belt.

I confess...

Next week our house should be turning into a bit of a construction area next week. The Mister and I have decided that we really need to finish our bathroom/hallway renovation up. We started it 4 1/2 years ago when we moved in. It's kind of time to get it done.
Tiling - Aug 2007
We also got word from our insurance company that we are getting a new roof. Last Tuesday the Mister found a leak in the bathroom, and I've been so worried about what we were going to do. It's a relief to know now that the appropriate repairs will be paid for.

I confess...

Yesterday the Mister finally let me order cable television. We haven't had any cable in the entire time we've been together, not even basic cable. That's not a bad thing, but this year I begged him for it because I want to be able to watch football at home. The first Carolina Gamecocks game is Sept. 3, and I really, really wanted to be able to watch from home. And now I can =)
Carolina v. Clemson 2006

I confess...

In looking back through my photos to find a football picture, I discovered that I don't have very many. Considering how many of my fall weekend involve the Gamecocks, I really should take more pictures this year.

I'm also linking up this week with Fabulous but Evil and Mrs. Monologues. They are doing a weekly linky party, and if you're blog fits the category, you link up.

My blog started as a wedding blog but quickly turned into a day-to-day general blog. I share details of friends weddings and the occasional recipe or fitness/health tip. I do quite a few linky parties and try to spread the word for causes I believe in. And I have an on-going love affair with shoes and coffee.

For a quick snap shot of what you'll find at my blog, here's my top five most popular posts:

  1. Ring-Warming Ceremony
  2. Nothing Like a Good Hair Day
  3. The Mister's View: Farmer's Market
  4. October Wedding Season
  5. Would You Do Me a Favor?

Wednesday, August 3

I thought I'd share what's currently on my wish list these days. After all, my birthday is just next week =)

I'd love an office makeover. I'm in love with this look from World Market.
These zebra print shoes from Victoria's Secret are welcome to come live in my closet. I wear a size 10, BTW.
A happy upgrade to our outdoor furniture. I'm currently lusting after this set from Pottery Barn.
Any tropical vacation. (Image via weheartit)

Joanna over at Dance and Dream Forever turned me onto a fun linky today. Virtual Coffee is hosted each week by Amy at Lucky Number 13. It's no secret that I love, love, love my coffee, so I'm going to play along and take a virtual coffee break with you today.

If I were having coffee in person with you today, I would tell you...

...The Mister and I are having dinner with some neighbors today, and I am so looking forward to it. It's nice to get out and catch up with friends. And we always have a good time with this couple. They've recently celebrated their 30-year anniversary. How amazing it that?
....One of our pups hasn't been feeling well lately. Gracie Mae is almost 10 years old, and lately she really starting to show her age. She doesn't hear very well, and she's definitely got less energy. And for the past few days, she's barely eating. I can't tell if she's lost her appetite because she doesn't feel well or if she's just hot. The Mister contacted a friend who is a vet, and she's suggested we try feeding her a mixture of plain chicken and rice to see if she gets her appetite back. If not she needs to go see the doctor.

...I'm super excited about heading to DC next month to meet up with Janna and Amy. They are walking at the 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk, and I'm so excited to meet them. If you haven't donated to help them raise funds to fight breast cancer, go HERE to do it.

...And finally since I've been officially declared a bridesmaid, I've been chatting with my bestest Kate the past few days about wedding dress ideas for her. She's not sure she wants to wear white and really likes this BCBSMAXAZRIA dress, but it seems to be sold out everywhere. Anyone know where we can find it?

Now it's time to go make myself an actual cup of coffee. If you want to play along, click the button at the top of the link up with Lucky Number 13.
