Yesterday, I was procrastinating catching up on some social networking and chatting with Janna, when I realized that none of my friends (myself included) on Daily Mile had posted a workout in three days. That's not good.

We all know that summer is coming. And what I'm reading on the blogs I follow is that most of us are trying get a bit more in shape, lose a few pounds, etc. The thing is, if we're not in the habit of working out consistently, it's hard to build the habit with our busy schedules.

So I've created the Spring Movement Challenge. It's pretty simple. You join Daily Mile. You and I become friends. You join the challenge. And then you log 10 miles each week in May.

It doesn't matter if you walk, run, bike, swim, whatever. Just get moving!

Some of the blogs I read are athletes....they log 5-10  or more miles a day. This challenge isn't for them. This is a challenge for those of us who need a little push to workout regularly. We have five participants so far.

You'll notice that the challenge is actually set up to see who logs the most miles in May. At the end of the month, I'm going to do a drawing for a goodie box amongst everyone who met their 10 miles per week. One entry per mile logged.

A couple quick notes. It's an invite-only you and I will need to be friends on the site in order for me to invite you. Daily Mile tracks the weeks Monday through Sunday. Technically our first week begins May 2, but any miles you log between now and then will count as entries for the goodie box.

So who's with me? Let's get moving!

Because confession is good for the soul

I confess...
Photo via weheartit

Normally I like thunderstorms because they make the best weather for sleeping. Yesterday was not the case. They started about 30 minutes before the alarm was supposed to go off. Both our dogs are afraid of thunder so they started flipping out. Essentially, I got a wake up call 30 minutes earlier than I wanted. Come on!

I confess...

People who don't know how to use turn signals really, really tick me off. They come standard with every vehicle. I wish more people used them. Where's a cop when you need one?

I confess...

I may have begged the Mister to grow brussell sprouts for me in the garden this year. I got so excited when I saw the little plants at the farmer's market. And I'm so proud of him for getting our garden going this year. Are you following his blog about the garden? Click HERE.

I confess...

I'm entirely too excited about this weekend, and it's simply because we have nothing planned. I am so going to sleep in tomorrow. I have no idea what we'll do, but I'm looking forward to just hanging out. And I'm hoping for a bike ride in the pretty spring weather.

I confess...

I really didn't care about the royal wedding, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy seeing the dress. It sure is gorgeous. I think I like the attendant's dress more than the bride's.

Hi everyone!

It's the last week of the month, which means that I'm slammed as far as work is concerned. On Sunday, I promised a recipe for the breakfast casserole I made for Easter. That is coming, but I felt like this was more important to share first.

I don't know how many of you read Jami's blog, Bowling Adventures. Jami is from upstate South Carolina, and last week she shared a very personal struggle that her family is facing with requests for prayers.

Jami's sister Jodi was diagnosed with AML acute leukemia. She and their parents have flown to Houston for treatment at MD Anderson, and yesterday she began chemotherapy. Jodi will be in Houston for at least six weeks receiving chemo and platelets,  and she may need a bone marrow transplant down the road.

This is what we can do right now to help Jodi, Jami and the rest of her family:
  1. Keep the entire family in your thoughts and prayers. Positive energy has a way of doing great things.
  2. Visit Jodi's Caring Bridge site to leave her some love and let her know that you're thinking of her. She also has her mailing address while in Houston if you want to send her some good mail.
  3. If you are eligible to do so, go donate platelets. MD Anderson has a huge donation center that the rest of the country pulls from. The more we donate locally, the more stays in Houston and helps people like Jodi.
  4. Sign up to be bone marrow donors! It's really, really easy to do, too. Be the Match provides a kit upon request. You swab the inside of your cheek and mail the kit back. After they test it, you're in the system. Even if Jodi doesn't need a transplant, there are others out there who will, and you may be the rockstar who save that person's life.
  5. If you live in upstate South Carolina, stop by Jodi's store The Beaded Tiger in Clemson. This Saturday, they will be selling t-shirts to help raise money for Jodi's expenses.
  6. Finally, stop by Jami's blog and leave her some love too. Right now her sister and parents are across the country, so I'm sure she could use the extra support here in SC.

1. Our roses are exploding with blooms. I love to walk outside and see all the gorgeous flowers, and I love that the Mister keeps picking them so I have fresh flowers by my bed.

2. These almonds are my new go-to snack at work. Healthy and yummy. That makes my belly happy.

3. The Mister has put some serious time into our garden this weekend, and today all the plants go into the ground. We're growing tomatoes, peppers, squash, watermelon, brussell sprouts and cucumbers so far.

4. A certain very special blogger friend sent me a cute Easter card and the Britney album I've been wanting. Thank you, Janna!

5. Easter! Not only is it the most important day in my church calendar, our church always has a great brunch during the Sunday school hour. There will be at least a half dozen different kinds of breakfast casserole (I'll share the recipe for mine tomorrow)...too bad we can't have mimosas too.

Because confession is good for the soul.

I confess...

I love driving a Prius...and I'm not ashamed to brag about the great gas mileage. This week, I got my best mileage ever...more than 500 miles to the tank! And I still have 1/4 of a tank left. Apparently, my car really likes Charleston too, or at least she likes the flat streets in Charleston.
It's little small, but can you see the 508 miles? Yeah, I'm bragging; I don't care. =)
And it's a good thing that was such a good tank because I was so upset when I filled up. We stopped at one of those backcountry highway gas stations. The kind where gas is about 15 cents more per gallon than the rest of the state. And they charge you an extra 6 pennies per gallon if you pay by card. What's up with that?

I confess...

While we were in Charleston, we stopped by the outlet mall. I was relatively well-behaved...except for shoes. In my defense, these were running shoes. I may have splurged a little in the Nike outlet. And one of the pairs was for the Mister.

Maybe this means that we'll actually start running together again....we'll see.  Of course, if we don't it's my laziness. He's perfectly happy to run, walk, ride bikes, etc. Sometimes, he's activity level makes me a little angry. He's so much more motivated than I am.

I confess...
At least is still looked pretty
That wedding cake that's been in the freezer for a year does not taste good. Who thought of this tradition? It's not because it wasn't stored properly. I know my MIL did a great job wrapping it up. I spit my one bite out. I think the Mister finished the rest of the slice, and then we through the rest out. We'll have to go out for cupcakes this weekend to make up for it.

I confess...

I am too thrilled to be working only a half-day today. It was unexpected, but my boss said since the stock market is closed, he wasn't sure there was anything for him to do in the office today. And left it up to me whether I wanted to work.

I really wish that I could get away with not working at all, but I can't. There's too much to do. So instead I will be happy with a half-day two Fridays in a row. And wearing jeans to work today.

I confess...

My bestest and I are toying with the idea of going to Vegas for a my 30th birthday in August. That is if I'm having a 30th birthday. That's still to be determined; I might have a second 29th birthday. BUT if I have a 30th, we're thinking about going to Vegas...pending approval from the checkbooks. If we do, is anyone out in blogland up for joining us?

The best part of getting out of town for the weekend is all the yummy food you get to eat. This weekend, we only made it to three restaurants, but there were no complaints from either of us about the food.

Long Point Grill
Poogan's Porch

Station 22
Some of our favorites from previous trips:
Coconut Joe's
Sea Biscuit Cafe

All photos taken from restaurant websites.

1. At the top of my Happy List this week is this guy. He just rocks my world, and I'm so lucky to be married to him.

2.  Leaving work early on a Friday with a relatively clean desk is a great way to start a weekend out of town.

3. We're heading to Station 22 this morning for brunch. I can't wait for some she-crab soup and shrimp and grits. One of my favorite parts of visiting Charleston is all the fantastic low country food to be enjoyed.

4. It may seem kind of random, but roasted brussel sprouts make my belly happy. I've been making them at home every chance I get.

5. Coming home from working out and finding flowers from my husband is something that I could really get used to. He spoils me rotten, and I'm an a very lucky girl.

Confession is Good for the Soul

I confess...

I hate getting up early. Hate it. But this week Miss Angela and I have been going walking at 5:30 in the morning because that's the only time we can find to get a workout together. I feel awfully accomplished at 6:00 when I know my workout is already done for the day. I also confess that I know that walking is not enough for me to accomplish my fitness goals, but this week I'm taking the small victory. I'll deal with the rest next week.

I confess...

I'm really stinkin' excited to get on the road this afternoon. Excited enough to go into work early today just to ensure that I leave by the time I want to. Half-days always fly by, and I do need to finish a few things up.

I confess...

I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing old pictures with you this week. I had a lot more that I wanted to share, but I restrained myself. Sometimes its really fun to see how hairstyles and whatnot have changed even in a just a few years.

I confess...

I scratched my car last week. I was backing out of a parking spot and decided to go ahead and back out of the parking lot too — something I never do. I'm not usually coordinated enough for reverse. And there was a yellow pole in my blind spot that I grazed with the front fender. I was so upset and worried that the Mister would be mad. Luckily when he examined it, he determined that it was just paint transferred from the pole to my fender and a buffing job should fix it.

I confess...

The new Foo Fighters album has been rocking my world this week. It's rocking in a way that makes me think of alternative rock from high school. I'm so glad that I waited and got that rather than the Britney Spears album I confessed about two weeks ago. I started to download her cd, and it was $14.99 on iTunes! Maybe I'm cheap, but that's entirely too expensive for a cd that I'm downloading, not physically holding in my hands.

Yesterday we received two anniversary cards. One from my awesome brother and SIL and one from my awesome MIL. In her card was a special poem, written just for us. It was too fun not to share.

The First Anniversary

now that was the day...
David and Aubrey promised
to honor and obey.

Plans went smoothly, Isle of Palms was the site.
The day of their nuptials was sunny and bright.
Aubrey looked so pretty. David was handsome and debonair.
The flowers and church were like a breath of spring air.

Parents and visitors were all seated.
The wedding party looked stunning.
Pastor Trump then began;
Kaitlyn's readings were perfect,
Next the exchange of wedding bands.

The Kiss then followed
Now married were they
There are countless picture and memories
to remember the special day.

The reception and meal,
wedding cakes and gifts
put the final touch
on their wonderful "day of bliss."

It's now been one year.
They have gone through each season.
It takes hard work and love
to keep on pleasing.

Never stop loving and respecting
and continue to pray.
And don't forget...
you promised to make me a grandmother one day!
