I really want to find time today to tell you about the great weekend that Mister and I had together, but first I want to share couple fun things for you to participate in:
Image from Hallmark

First, Jennifer at Crazy Shenanigans, let her readers know about a Christmas ornament exchange that is being coordinated by Justine at Almost There. Since I love Christmas ornaments, this sounded like a lot of fun to me, so I've signed up. If it's something that you might want to do as well, you can get details HERE and sign up HERE. Sign up ends October 26 so get on it if you want to participate.

Second, Jen at A Girl in Pearls and a Boy with Toys let her readers know that Traylor Papers is offering a free customized notecard to their facebook fans. More details on their facebook page HERE. The offer ends October 28.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Today I got an email from The Knot that surprised me. We are exactly 6 months away from our wedding date. That's exciting and terrifying at the same time. I am so excited that Mister and I will be getting married next April, but there is still so much to do!

One of the things that I have been trying to be sure of all along is not to let the details overwhelm and stress me out. And after those initial few weeks of making decisions (date, location, venues, photographer), we basically found a little reprieve from having to think about the planning too much.

But I think it's time to take care of some more details. For one, we need to make some hotel arrangements. Our wedding date falls on the same weekend as the Family Circle Cup, a celebrity tennis tournament that is forcing the hotel rates around Charleston way higher than I would prefer them to be. One of the drawbacks of having a small wedding is that you don't have the buying power to negotiate hotel rates. So we'll be paying full-price or near that, which is unfortunate, but what are you going to do?

We're really liking The Palms Hotel for before the wedding, which won't wind up being so expensive since I'll probably try to room with some of my girlfriends. After Mister can't see me the night before the wedding; it's bad luck. And we're thinking that on our wedding night, we're going to try to get a room at the Francis Marion or another downtown hotel (this way we won't have to drive anywhere after our bar crawl after dinner.)

Last weekend, my girlfriend Erin came into town to see me. She's going to be making our cupcakes for the wedding, and she said we need to be deciding on flavors, frosting, etc. I guess we better be thinking about that...and maybe flowers too. And we need to start working on our invitations. And oh yeah, we still have to pick or write vows.

One little piece of good news is that we'll be getting our Save the Date cards from the printer this week. He gave me a proof last week so that we could tweak some of the details. I'm glad that by Friday, we'll have that behind us.

So I'm guessing that as we start figuring some of this details out, I'll be blogging a little more often. Though I haven't not been blogging because of not being able to think of ideas; I've just been so darn busy! Thank God for weekend.

Oh, and this song has been keeping me sane today:

I've received another blog award...this one from Miss Sarah Lou. Thank you!

The award works very similarly to the last one I received. Here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated me for this award.
2. Copy the award and place it on my blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated me for this award
4. Name 6 things that people might find interesting.
5. Nominate 6 Bloggers

6. Post links to the blogs I nominate
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

So let's see what can I tell you about myself this time around?

My 25th Birthday Party at my fave sushi bar, Inakaya

1. I LOVE sushi. I was lucky enough to be introduced to it the year I started college, and I've never turned back. Before we were saving for a wedding, I'd take myself to lunch at my fave sushi bar about once a week. It's good to have a place where not only do you know the sushi chefs by name, you also know the regulars.

Photo in The State newspaper after working the Lexington SC Town Hall Meeting

2. Not to get into a politics discussion, but during the primaries last year, I worked on Obama's presidential campaign, and I got to meet him when he came to Lexington, SC that spring. To me, it was great to see hard work actually turn into an accomplishment. And trust me, spending 12 hours at the election poll as a poll watcher on the day of the SC Primaries was a long, hard day.

3. As you can probably see from my profile description, I really enjoy a good chocolate porter. I have a lot of friends that are homebrewers so I'm lucky to be able to try so many different beers. We have a Flying Saucer in Columbia, and I've got a plate in their Ring of Honor. My Mister is still working on his, but he should catch up soon.

Photo from the Biltmore Estate

4. Considering that I live 2 hours from Asheville, I've never been to the Biltmore Estate. My MOH Kate and I have been trying to plan a trip there since we lived together in college, and things have just never worked out. This year however, we are going to make it for the Candlelight Christmas tour of the house (and the wine tasting) when she's home for Christmas.

Shopping at The Disney Store on Black Friday on the last Delaware trip.

5. Speaking of my MOH, I'm heading up to visit her in Deleware for Thanksgiving. My best guy friend Rob and I are driving up there, since it's going to be her last year in grad school. The last time we went to visit, we have a great time making Thanksgiving dinner and then watching the Carolina-Clemson rivalry game over the weekend. (Rob is a Clemson fan; Kate and I are Carolina grads.)

I have paddled exactly two rivers: the Hiwassee and the Catawba.

6. And finally, the same best guy friend has been trying to teach me to kayak for the past 2 years. For me, trying to learn at all is a big accomplishment since I'm sort of scared of the water. I don't like to be in a pool if I can't touch the bottom. Teaching me has been a bit of a challenge for him as I can't seem to figure out how to roll my boat so I tend to panic when we get to anything larger than a tiny rapid.

Here are my nominations for the award:
Amy at Rainy Saturday
Jen at A Girl in Pearls & a Boy with Toys
Aleksis at Alpha Blonde
Anna at Anna and the Ring
Ang at Jaunty Gourmand
Sarah at Class and Coffee

Now I suppose I should get back to it.

Maurice Sendak's book Where the Wild Things Are is my absolute favorite children's picture book. I find it hard to believe that anyone wouldn't remember this book, which was published by Harper & Row (now HarperCollins) in 1963 and won the Caldecott Medal the following year, but when I was talking about it with my Mister a couple weeks ago, he wasn't familiar with the story. I pulled the book off my bookshelf and read it to him right there.

Well this year, Where the Wild Things Are is coming to the motion picture world. The film, directed by Spike Jonze, opens on October 16. The trailers have brought me to tears, so needless to say, I am super excited to go see it in a couple week. Watch the trailers HERE and HERE.

The soundtrack appears to be amazing as well. It was written and produced by Karen O. from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (whom I also happen to like a lot).

Jen at A Girl in Pearls & A Boy with Toys has given me the Kreativ Blogger award. Thanks, Jen!

The award comes with the following rules:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
  2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
  3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
  4. Name 7 things about yourself that people may not know.
  5. Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
  6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
  7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they've been nominated.
So I guess we're moving on to the seven things about me:

1. I have a degree in French, but I don't use it at all for my job. This makes me sad because I know that I'm losing my language skills, and I love being able to speak another language.

2. Because I still read French fairly well, you'll see that I still have a lot of novels in French on my bookshelf--this includes several of the Harry Potter Books.

3. When I was in college,  I also studied and got a minor in print journalism--focus on copy editing. So seeing intentional misspelling of words suchs "Kreativ" or "Kar Kare" drives me nuts. There's no gimmick or reason why those words are misspelled; they just are.

4. I love to play Scrabble, and I'm super competitive. For this reason, most of my friends will not play with me anymore.

My photo

5.  I pride myself on being able to make a mean batch of guacamole, turkey burgers or chili...from scratch. I actually learned to make guacamole from my Mister (who learned in Mexico), but now we each have a completely different style.

My photo

6. I really enjoy going camping, especially in the fall. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to go in a few years. When I was younger, my dad used to take my brother and I camping on the Great Lakes. Now the Mister and I are likely to meet a friend to go camping and whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River in Tennessee, or we'll camp outside of Asheville, N.C.

My photo

7. Most people seem surprised to find out that I have a tattoo; I'm not sure why they're surprised but they are. (I also had my bellybutton and my tongue pierced.) I got as my 19th birthday present to myself....a butterfly on the small of my back. Even though it's been nearly 10 years, I still love it. The photo above was taken when I was 19; no way I'm that skinny now.

 Alright, let's take some people:

Monday, October 5

Hi everyone! I want to write you all a quick apology the I've been missing for the last week and a half or so. I've been crazy, crazy busy, and just haven't found the time to  write a blog post or even read any of the wonderful blogs that usually keep me entertained.

I've been busy with work (end of the month, end of the quarter, blah, blah, blah) and several afterwork commitments. I'm promise to try to make that better this week. I have a bit of catching up to do including the following:
  1. Updating my fitness goals from September and remarking on progress (or lack thereof)
  2. Responding to a blog award (My first!!)
  3. Telling you about the Bluegrass Festival that I worked at this weekend
  4. Hopefully sharing our Save the Date cards; this depends on if I can get them printed and in the mail this week.
  5. Getting you my playlists from my radio show from the past few weeks.
I see that I have a handful of new followers. I especially want to say "I'm sorry" to you because you've joined, and I've provided nothing for you to read. Hang in there, new stuff is coming soon!

Forgive me!
